Triathlon

Hit a peak today training for an upcoming standard distance triathlon in the New Forest. The event is in three weeks so went and did the routes of each discipline as closely to the race as possible. Pleased with what I was able to achieve since this is almost the same course as the event I did not finish in May. Today's overall time of around 2 hours 30 (I didn't time transitions) is a benchmark to try and beat in the event. The last three weeks training will get more specific, meaning working at race pace and doing sessions with bike after swim and run after bike, but at the same time lower the volume to gain some freshness.

Great stuff @Nkwkfld, I take my hat off to you and anyone who does these events.
Loved watching the mixed team triathlon relay at the olympics this year.

Thanks and yeah @bryaneidins that tri mixed relay was definitely fun, hope it stays in future olympics
(also you have a killer outfit in waywt!) -
Managed to complete my first triathlon on Sunday. Olympic distance (1100 meter swim, 33k bike, 10k run) in the same area where I attempted a race in May and did not finish because of hypothermia. Very pleased then to go ten mins faster than my goal and end up in 18th place out of over 130 participants. Weather was great, the whole thing went by super quickly. There was a bit of jostling and bumping on the swim, and then a 1k run from swim exit to bike, but bike felt great and my foot injury stayed away for the run. Looking forward to going for longer distance next summer. Will at least go for middle distance/70.3, and maybe Ironman.
A few race photos, my favourite is the person in the car.

Well done @Nkwkfld !! Glad you finished, enjoyed it and did better than expected.

Signed up to 70.3 Ironman Weymouth for September '22.
70.3 miles total is a 1.2 mile swim (1.9K), bike 56 miles (90K), run 13.1 miles (21.1K).
Should be fun. -
Did a duathlon today in great weather it was a lot of fun. 3.8km run/ 38km bike/ 7.6km run (laps around Goodwood motor circuit).

Had a great time today. Swim and run were the hardest bit. The bike was beautiful and a lot of fun. Looking forward to getting race photos tomorrow.

Just signed up for Ironman Vichy on 20 August. Need to do some heat training.

@AdamC @Dmart this is my first full distance Ironman so really just hoping to finish especially since it will be hot, possibly above 30c. But if my Weymouth 70.3 time of 5:13 is something to go on, I guess a 12 hour time for the full distance would be something. I’m basing that on guesses of 1 hour 15 minute swim (3.8km), 6.5 hour bike (180km), then a 4 hour marathon with 15 minutes of transition. But anything can happen over that much time and distance and it will be hot. The goal is to stay healthy and avoid injury during training.

@Dmart I am the same, I would love to do a triathlon but my swimming is terrible. Bike and running I could definitely get on board with. Could always do a duathlon but doesn't have the same appeal and sense of achievement for me
That’s exactly it for me as well. Either Tri or I just keep on running.
