IHM-35-ODG - Whipcord N1 Deck Jacket - Olive
-
Oh man, I just got my hands on one of these, and I have to say, it's worth every penny. I'm a big fan of olive green anything - I'm 90% sure if you X-rayed my chest, you'd find that my heart is olive green. Pretty much, make something in that color and I'm interested.
What's great about this jacket is that the olive color is so beautiful and unique. It's a warm shade that can look green or brownish depending on the light. It's really something to behold in-person. If you're on the fence, it's really one of the best olive colors I've seen and I think you'll love it.
As for the jacket itself, the details are so nice - it's thick and heavy, but still easy to move in. The feel and thickness really fit the overbuilt Iron Heart theme beautifully. High armholes and just right arm circumference make room for an extra layer while keeping the sleeves relatively trim. The fairly straight body manages to be comfortable but still flattering in cut. I'm not overweight, but I'm not 21 anymore, and I appreciate the way this jacket straddles the line between comfort and style.
Having just received the jacket, I thought I had missed my window to wear it this year, but we had a cold snap this week and I can report that it is very warm in below-freezing temps. The Alpaca lining is soft and comfortable, even on the exposed skin of the neck. The alpaca lined handwarmer pockets are genius, and very effective. The alpaca faces inward, so it makes a thick, warm barrier between your hands and the cold. Also, they've managed to keep the pockets from being bulky in-spite of the warm, thick, lining.
As someone who commutes every day, the 2-way zipper is one of my favorite features, and makes it easier to sit in a car without the jacket being pushed up into my chin or bunching at the middle. The zipper is one of the smoothest I've felt (I've had a lot of stiff/difficult 2-way zips) and my only comment would be that I'm still getting used to the zipper being backwards (zipper pull on the left instead of the right). I'm not sure why it's reversed, but it's a minor issue, especially given how well the zip functions.
The other thing that I noticed is that regardless of size charts, the Olive version seems to fit a bit larger in the body and longer in the arms when directly compared to the IHM-14 or IHM-35. I tried on the tan IHM-35 in XL and the IHM 14 and 35 in 2XL at Self Edge and determined that the 2XL made more sense for layering. However, the 2XL IHM-35 in Olive was an inch bigger in the chest and and inch longer in the arms - just a bit too big for me. I took a chance on an Olive in XL, and it is a perfect fit - much like the 2XL in the Tan color. ***I'm not bringing this up to complain, just sharing my experience. Sizing can be tricky, and I hope this can help someone else like me that tends to be in between sizes.
I also owe a public thank you to @Graham who was so patient and helpful in this process. He really bent over backwards for me, and I would be remiss in not giving him a shout out.

Should we expect to see another run this year?

Should we expect to see another run this year?
The N-1’s come every autumn/winter, normally in three colours. The khaki is ever present, but the other colours rotate or get changed up.

Thanks Neph!

@Skelly An educated guess based on my experience would be XXL, but it really depends on how you're built. I wear XXXL in Type3s, and have an XXL N1.
Ok good info. Thanks so much.
I have a wide back and full chest with a bit of a gut lol. Id say I'm a "muscular dad bod" lol
Skelly, lol at the "muscular Dad bod". This is probably a great jacket for that since it's not as tapered as other IH jackets like the Type III. I'm not sure if you ever got yours, but I can also confirm that I wear a 2XL in IH Type IIIs, and I found that an XL was a perfect fit in the IHM-35-ODG. XXL was a bit too big in the chest and too long in the arms, and I have long arms to begin with. My XL IHM-35 is big enough to layer a t-shirt and a UHF underneath and it's not hard to get on over those layers.

Wore my N1 on the motorcycle again yesterday. Blocks the wind so well and the 2-way zip is clutch for comfort.

Not sure what kind of fit you’re looking for, but that looks perfect to my eye Skelly

Hey guys…I am fairly new to Iron Heart but have amassed a nice little collection in the last few months. I have been on the fence about the N1 Deck Jacket for a few weeks because I couldn't decide on the sizing. I don't tend to layer under heavy jackets and prefer a slimmer fit. I am 5'10" around 168 lbs and wear a Size L UHF western.
I reached out for advice and both IH customer service and TJ at the Shop recommended sizing down to the Medium. I noticed the measurements for the Olive version tend to be (ever so slightly) roomier and that was my preferred color, so I was able to find the jacket in stock at Rivet & Hide and finally pulled the trigger. 48 hours after placing the order the jacket was delivered to my house in the US on a Saturday morning no less and in a word it is BRILLIANT.
This is not only my favorite piece of Iron Heart gear but just may be the nicest piece of clothing I have ever owned. Everything is impeccable. The fit is perfect. The color is exactly what I was looking for and (living in Colorado) it is very very warm over just a T-Shirt and I do still have room to layer a thin flannel or sweatshirt. If anyone is on the fence...please don't hesitate...it is a true gem in the IH lineup! I will post some more fitment pics when my wife gets home:)
