They've gone fast fashion crazy…....
I can't help but think some of the fashion trends here in the West have played a part in this. Its a damn shame because Japan has produced some of the finest quality products in so many areas…
Regardless, I'm IH 4 Life so while prices may go up, my loyalty and business remains here.

I was thinking the same….American capitalism is ruining the world.

Without American capitalism, there's no such thing as blue jeans.

That's quite a leap from "Japanese domestic demand has plummeted" to "American capitalism is ruining the world." I'm not making the connection. From what I've read, the fast fashion trend is growing domestically in Japan.

It's not a leap at all IMO and doesn't take much to see the connection. Capitalism = a push for pumping out the cheapest made and lowest quality products possible for the highest profits. This is exactly what killed Selvedge denim in the states in the first place and why Cone Mills has finally had to close. American Capitalism is pushed globally, see fast food chains and Wal-Mart. To be fair I was speaking in more general terms but my guess would be that there's definitely some American companies who would benefit from fast fashion spreading globally.

Capitalism is the private ownership of the means of production. The market determines the price of goods and if people are willing to pay for quality goods, the market will provide them. Before the invention of the projectile loom, selvedge denim was the only, and therefore the cheapest, type of denim.
You can make a valid argument that capitalism leads to the oppression of the working class but you can't deny that it also leads to innovation. Jeans were invented by private individuals to fill the need for sturdy work pants.
America doesn't have a monopoly on fast fashion. H&M is Swedish, Zara is Spanish, Topshop is British, Uniqlo is Japanese.
If you want lay blame, then blame the uneducated consumer.
-
Or blame it on capitalism in general. And withdraw participation to be consistent. People spending hundreds of dollars on pants and shirts while decrying capitalism… Now I've seen everything.
Back on topic, thanks for the usual probity and respect paid to your customers, G.

Agreed. Good call neph. My bad for leading it down that path.
