In they go…

@Mizmazzle i can relate! I didn’t feel a difference as well.. doesn’t mean it isn’t there but maybe it’s so minimal that i don’t feel it. If you think it’s a huge difference i would shoot the guys at IHUK a message. If i may be so free to say that.

@EdH like your account quote: they dive in
-
@Heavy_blue ha. That actually came from a typo. I meant to write “take the drive” once and @endo i think spotted it. But it suited how I ended up falling headfirst into IH fandom, so I adopted it from myself.

After 2 weeks of wear. bolts now fly in by themselves when fastening. And for the first time, I buttoned it up with the help of a fucking mother)))
-
Only 7 wear-days so far and these are already very soft and comfortable. Does this keep going? After how they started I'm shocked at how comfy they've become already.
-
@EdH i have a XHS in several cuts and a roomier fit gives me more comfort then for example a 555 or so.
-
@EdH XHS is the bees knees. Just you wait after a month. IMO no other IH denim conforms to the body and evolves from rigid to soft more than the XHS

Fairly new to the selvedge world and first pair of XHS, incredible denim. Did a prelim 30 minute wash @ 40C, and only got half an inch out of the waist, is this a fairly average amount or should I do another hot soak to get it all out? Fairly happy with the fit either way
-
@Leadley they look good on you man!!
-
@Leadley I'd leave it there. The fit looks great.
@flannel-slut @goosehd Incredible stuff. I'm gobsmacked really at how great the XHS denim is, only 8 wears in.

My 888 25oz is starting to show the first signs of honeycombs. The denim is dense, so the folds break cotton and paint well.

I started wearing my new 888-XHS this week, and a couple of things surprised me. The shrinking didn't go quite as I had hoped, but that's okay. I got really close to my desired measurements, and it'll be fine. The other thing is that the denim is SO MUCH more slubby than my 11 year old 634-XHS. I'll take a comparison shot soon to share, but they're vastly different materials. The old XHS that I've been wearing all this time has a very smooth face, and almost a shine to it. This new XHS has so much character and has me excited to see how they wear and fade.

Too hot for these yesterday but broke out Filthy's 888s while I was grilling.

Hey all,
Wondering, given how heavy the XHS fabric is, if anyone sized up a little in these? I'm between my usual IH-888 size, which is a 31, and a 32, which puts all the measurements a hair bigger than what most of my pairs are at now, after some wear.
I'm just thinking a tad extra room in these might be nice, and wondering if anyone followed the same logic before purchasing, and if they're glad they did.
Thanks in advance for any input!

Go for the slightly larger size. This denim is hefty. You won't want to be struggling to bend over even at first, trust me. I could have gone down - I just about managed to squeeze into a smaller size when I tried on in a retailer - but the guys in the store correctly advised me to go with the size that was larger.
-
I'll echo @EdH and say that too-small XHS = no good. I had a pair of 666 that were wearable, but were really kinda kicking my ass every step of the way. Especially with the lower rise (not so much of a problem with the 888) I had trouble raising my legs, plus generally squeezed my guts in a not so pleasant way. I summarily moved em on.
I've found the general rule with XHS is that they should fit just right when they're new and not yet soaked. They'll shrink a little with a hot soak, not a whole ton in my experience, then will stretch back out to that original size. They won't go too much past that, if any.

On Friday my exchange pair came in.
Originally I ordered a 33 which had exactly the same waist measurements as my best fitting jeans (German Blaumann brand).
Due to the much higher rise I ended up with a lot of room in the waist and also the top block was way too roomy. After a quick conversation with Graham we concluded that a 32 should fit way better. This was absolutely right.
The waist is perfect and top block still has some room. Graham said it will tighten up once I do the initial wash.
I do the Indigo Invitational with them so this will need to wait until end of the year. Here's some fit pics:
