@Jepanic are you doing stitchdown patina thunderdome with these?
-
@Nik No, I have a rotation of engineers to slowly go through. I’ll post updates here when they get more wear.

Fantastic bootwalk @Jepanic !!

@Jepanic outstanding boots! Good work taking care of them. Looking forward to seeing them down the road.

I asked for recommendations on a good Chelsea boot over in the Red Wings thread, as my Chelsea Ranchers are pretty trashed. I had tried out the Red Wings Williston, but they came up a little too narrow. So I followed the John Lofgren recommendation, and I treated myself with a pair for my birthday.
Horween CXL in timber, and they fit awesome right out of the box. Never experienced leather shoes as comfy from the start!
The shopping experience was pretty unpleasant, though.
I went to Stuf-f in Düsseldorf, and was served by the owner, a snobbish know-it-all type of guy.
Sneered at my IH gear, sneered at my wife's Hen's Teeth gear.
Just the thing you want to hear when you're just about to spend nearly a grand on shoes.Didn't want to order online and gamble on sizing, though.
In the end, I went with a size 10D. My Red Wings are 10.5, but I usually wear them with thicker boot socks. -
@tody
Lofgren is best great choice mate !
you’ll love them ! -
I just noticed a couple places now have the Lofgren Duke Ropers in Shinki Hikaku Horsebutt in stock. I really wanted to pre order these but my size was sold out. Now I suppose I could get them. The only problem is I’ve preordered the roughout ones. Can a man have too many ropers?
-
I really dig those
-
@tody Kind of a similar experience at the stuf-f store in Düsseldorf when I paid a visit with my IH gear. Thankfully we have IH!
-
@deanclean seems like the different leathers will make for very different boots. get both. what will the soles be on each?
-
@Nik both have the Vibram 269 soles. They look pretty sharp to me. I’d love to get both. I’ve never tried on a pair of Lofgren boots before so I should probably hold off until I know at least one will fit me.
-
@Daniel-San same dude!! I’ve been eye ballin those myself.
-
I picked up a pair of devil’s causeway engineer boots in 9.5D. Sizing overall feels great. Boots are a little challenging to get on and off but not terrible.
There’s a ton of heel slip, though. Is that normal? Something that works itself out with wear? If it’s not normal for then I think this last might not be for me. Thanks for any advice.
-
@chucklando do you have any experience with engineers? My first pair took a bit to get used to the heel slip. It’s an inherent quality of an engineer boot. My Lofgrens had a good amount of volume when I got them. I put a thin insert in them and they become much less heel slippy. The sole will mold to your foot in time, but the heel slip will be there still. Many describe engineers as walking in flip flops or slippers due to the way the heel kinda rises off the sole when walking.
-
No this is my first pair. Good to know, thanks. I’ll keep feeling them out with different socks and try and inset if needed. The flip flop analogy is accurate.
-
@chucklando
close the top strap to the last hole. this reduces the heel slip a lot from my experience. It’s almost gone one my pair since I did it .
