John Lofgren (Speedway)

@Mizmazzle
They run bigger than the engineers, so choose half size smaller.
Ich have 9.5 in engineers and 9 in the donkeys. -
@Daniel-San thanks buddy. I appreciate it!! I think Lofgren have updated their sizing on this last run. According to standard and strange they have sort of uniformed up their sizing. So a 9 in engineers is now a 9 across the line of models.

decided to pull the trigger on the combat boots in black cxl. i've been through this thread, but would like to check again with you gents who own a pair...did you end up going with the same size as iron rangers or half size down? my rw fit is us9 for iron rangers and blacksmiths, and 9,5 in moc toes
-
@prpx good news on the Lofgren sizing. With the last run (maybe two) they have standardized their sizing across models. Meaning, a size 9 in engineers is now the same size 9 in the combats, and subsequently all other models. Didn’t used to be this way. Different lasts had different numbers for sizing.
So, seeing as how I too have been wanting to buy a pair of the combats, I’ve been in touch with standard and strange as well as Lofgrens customer service regarding sizing. I wear a 9 in my JL engineers, in many pairs of Red Wings as well. With their new sizing standard, take you RW size. Or if you have another pair of JLs…take that size.
Let it be noted, that if you’re buying a used pair of Combats they may be older and not in line with their new sizing standard. In which case their previous sizing advice was 1/2 size down from your JL engineers or Red Wings.

your post here, dear @Mizmazzle is the essence of this forum. awesome, informative and super helpful, more than the internet knows!
i'm going for new pair, so will go with us9. thanks brother. -
About to pull the trigger on a pair of Donkey Punchers in natural Roughout but unsure of the sizing. I am normally (in sneakers) a European 44,5 (US size 11,5). Have a wide foot, and therefore usually need to size up. Foot length 28cm (11 1/16 inches). Size (but tight) in Red Wing blacksmith and MocToe US 10 and (Chuka) US 10,5. So my RW boot sizes are significantly smaller than my normal size, which does make this all more complicated.
I note the posts about changed sizing with Lofgren, so I will also need to double check if the boot would be a recent run (adjusted sizing), or older stock... -
First impressions (after i took them for my daily 10km commute walk) - definitely the most comfortable pair out of the box. in the army we got rather comfortable boots (tumbled leather so break in would be couple of days), and after that i went through 15 pairs of different work boots. but nothing this nice and comfortable
@Mizmazzle - i'll repeat the big thank you man! it was so easy to go with your sizing recommendation - the fit is perfect. last is a bit different than rw blackman/IR but size wise thats it. overall - 10/10, i'm happy! -
@Tobi - looks like donkey punchers are the same last as combat boots i just purchased. thats almost identical to blacksmith in size. maybe a tad wider, but comparing to well worn in pair of blacksmith and new JL combats is also not fair, i expect them to be a tiny bit wider after regular wear.

@prpx those are killer man!! Perfect silhouette. Once that leather breaks they are going to look even better.
I’m really wanting the green shell cordovan combats they just came out with. Wish I could drop $1,700 on boots without having divorce papers slapped across my face!

Donkey Punchers in natural Roughout leather arrived. Amazing look and feel, love them!
I got sizing recommendations from 2 online stores (9,5 and 10), here on the forum (same size as RW 10), and finally from Lofgren itself (10.5). On last minute I changed the order (about to be send) from 10 to 10.5 US size. Size works, and a 10 might also have worked (but impossible to say without trying both). They fit snug but a bit looser in the front as compared to my (slightly too tight) RedWings (10), and there is a tiny amount of heel slip when walking (this is where the 10 might have been better in the heel area). Anyway: I will not send them back on the chance that the 10 would fit better, and then perhaps exchange a 3rd time if not. -
@Tobi very nice. Waiting on a pair of burgundy donkey punchers myself. Anxious how I make out sizing wise as well. Ended up going .5 larger than my Lofgren M-43s
-
@flannel-slut at least you have a Lofgren reference (I guess you sized up because of their size harmonization that was announced for the recent boots). I was looking at the burgundy color myself, and also the cognac and natural leather. Not brave enough for burgundy, and found the cognac Badalassi a bit too red/yellow. Would have gone for the natural color but found it not in stock anywhere in my size in Europe. Also always wanted some boots in roughout leather..
-
@Tobi those are sick dude! So ultimately you went with .5 up from your RW size? It’s kinda crazy how different lasts can affect size and fit for each boot. Def makes things tricky on very expensive boots. Hope you love em! Do you have any other pairs of JL to compare sizing to?
@flannel-slut those burgundys DPs are killer man!! Stoked for ya. Those are on my Santa wish list too! Fingers crossed.
-
@Mizmazzle yeah, but then the 10 in RW was always borderline too tight in the front, with my very wide feet. No JL to compare sizing. They are quite comfortable right out of the box, unlike my RW that needed a VERY long and painful wear-in.
-
@Mizmazzle the heel slip is minimal.. more in my mind than real and yes 25oz IH-634-XHS
-
@Tobi curious man, when you say very long painful break in period for your RWs, are they now broken in/a comfortable fit? Or are your toes still crammed in them?
-
@Mizmazzle great minds man! I’ll be sure to tease you w some pics when they arrive next week
