IH-888S-SBG - 21oz Selvedge Denim Medium/High Rise SBG
-
@natefreezy I would invite you to think about a few things before you size down. Here’s some of my personal experience with SBG. First, I’ve had 2 separate pairs. Both I’ve had to sell because they got too small. SBG does not stretch like 21oz indigo does. Secondly, when sizing. I didn’t think of the future. I just through about right now. First pair 32, second 34. Now I’d take a 36 in a different cut. But they fit great for the first year or so and then either the thigh or waist was too small (usually thigh) so consider if you plan to wear these years down the line as your body changes. Last consideration, movement. I started skinny. Now prefer 888 or loose fits. All basically from range of motion. Really want to be active in mine too. So depending on occupation and free time it may be advisable to go TTS or even size up depending on how you will wear them.
That said. If you’re gonna rock them your style for a year or so and move on. Sure size down for fun. Future and long term wear. Stick with size or size up.
Enjoy the SBG fades!

It seems that the "will stretch" vs. "won't stretch" topic is quite controversial based on the comments in this thread so far. There's only one way to find out for me and that is to wear them myself when they arrive.
Edited to add that I'll share my personal experience with these here soon once I break them in.

Oh and if I'm not mistaken, the SBG earlier in this thread used to shrink once washed, but the new SBG is one-washed and will stretch. This is an important factor to consider when reading some of the comments and making an opinion before purchasing.

FWIW - My SBG was 32.1" when brand new, and stopped stretching at 33.9". Only took 2-3 days. It's still at 33.9" on day 14.
To add - my 21ib went from 31.9" to 33.9" in the same time, and remains 33.9" after months of wear.
-
Measured mine. 33.5 new and now 34. Two weeks solid wear.

interesting. I guess its true what they say: you get as much stretch as you need. I wouldn't try to push it more than I already have though lol
-
@Richard how snug were they when you started? If they essentially fit you to the point where you weren’t pushing very hard on them with your belly only minimal stretch would be achieved. If you had to suck in your gut to get them buttoned, more stretch would occur….like mine. Haha. Had to breath in a bit and hold to button.

Additionally, stretch will also depend on the type of physical activity done in the jeans and the duration of it. Generally speaking, sitting all day in jeans, for example, might not help stretching them significantly while walking, climbing, squatting or whatever more likely will.

Yup, this. Always this.
I did what I always do with my new IH denim, cold washed, hung dry. Did some squats and stretches and they already have opened up a little more than what they were out of the bag.
As someone who rides his bike to work, does not have a desk job, and wears nothing but IH denim there, I’m anticipating a similar amount of waist stretch as my other 21s, maybe just over a longer period of time.
If I’m wrong, I’m wrong, but the fact that I almost immediately got some give in the waist after some squats makes me think I’m not.
Anyway, awesome pair of jeans.

^ excellent point!
I went hiking in the Dolomites with mine when I first got them. Did the trick quite nicely. Haha
Totally jealous! Went there as a 13 year old way, way before the inception of IH haha. What a great way to get them going.

Yep, let's also add "having patience" on the "how to stretch your SBG" list

@drewfonse oh man. Those mountains are insane. Can’t wait to go back someday.

Wearing the 888 142s right now, highly recommended to people who live in warmer climates. Look great, feel great.
-
Just arrived - many thanks to @AdamJ and @Graham:
The waist measures exactly 76cm / 30" (measured the IH-way) right now. I went for a waist size that is 1" below what I wanted to achieve like I did with my Indigo 21oz 888, but these are so comfortable right out of the box that they don't even feel snug to begin with. Unless I forget, I'll update the thread every two weeks with my experience regarding the stretch progress. In the name of "science", of course...

@cityofdelusion nice one man, hope you enjoy!

How do folks like these hemmed - cuffs or no cuffs?
