IHSH-333-OD - Ultra Heavy Flannel Blanket Check Western Shirt - Sax Blue Overdyed Black
-
Hoo boy, they weren’t kidding about the OD process taking all the shrink out. This definitely feels denser and a little stiffer than a regular UHF. The double brushed side also feels a bit less fluffy (but no less soft) than a non-od’d UHF.
In non-studio lighting it’s much more “black” than it looks on the store pages. At a glance your brain reads it as pure black, but against a black item like my Henley here, you can tell something more interesting is going on. The pop of the blue stitching is more subtle than in the store pictures too - almost invisible more than 2 feet away from the mirror, aside from the thicker bar tacks on the pockets.
Love it, love it, love it.
Some close ups also below:

@EdH Nice. Does it feel as warm as a regular UHF?
-
@JunkPants It arrived while I was at work today so it’s hard to tell without wearing it outdoors, but as it feels a bit denser I’m guessing it might be a bit more of a wind shield than a normal UHF. I’ll try to remember to report back after it gets its first outing.
-
@EdH Thanks! Cool to see some real life pictures as well, looks great.
-
@EdH looking smart man, guessing you went one up in these?
-
@EdH wow
-
@Supersonic nope, usual size for me. It’s a little tighter across the shoulders but it’s not outside my usual tolerances. I’m on the smaller end of XL usually, and this one feels like I just put a normal IHF through a hot wash after it’s gotten a little stretched out.
-
@EdH Do you usually take XL then yeah!?
Dope shirt man. Enjoy
-
@Supersonic yup, XL is my normal size for UHF and jackets.
-
@JunkPants I'm wearing the shirt again today. It's currently 2 degrees C here, with the sun shining and a slight breeze. I've got it on over an IH waffle henley. I left my jacket open as a test while walking around and I'm happy to report that I couldn't feel the cold at all on my front.
-
@EdH Thank you for reporting back, appreciate that.
I have to admit I was hoping it would somehow be less warm than a regular UHF. I have one UHF and while it is one of the most impressive pieces of clothing I've come across I find I hardly wear it, as it's just too warm for me most of the time.
I guess I run a bit hot. (Love winter. Summer (even here in Norway) is my nemesis).
Really love the look of these though!
-
@JunkPants UHFs used to be too warm for me, especially indoors. But I found that the more I wore them, the less stuffy they became. Not sure if this holds water with everyone, but I can wear a UHF all day indoors and be cozy and not overly warm.
-
@JunkPants I don't know if you've ever picked up one of the un-brushed 9oz flannels that they do in the SS collections? My 316 is a beautiful weight for Spring & Summer and the lack of brushing makes it far more breathable. I wore mine in 30-ish degree heat in Dubai a few months ago over 6oz tees quite comfortably.
Depending on exactly how hot it is here in UK, I could do a UHF during some of the Summer months, though I'd probably be wearing it open then and more as a shirt-jacket.
-
@Oaktavia Interesting. Maybe I can work on my UHF conditioning.
(I feel I may be a hopeless case though. My long term goal is to have a second home in a cool place I can retreat to during the summer months)
@EdH Haven't tried one yet, but have been considering it and really should give one a go. I think the main issue for me is indeed the brushing. Have no problem with heavy denim shirts/jackets/jeans for instance.
Anyway, don't want to bog this thread down with my personal overheating issues
These overdyed flannels are awesome for sure.

@Oaktavia I’ve found that overall, I wear heavier clothing in warmer climates than I ever would have before finding IH. I used to just wear t-shirts and a hoody in the dead of winter. Kinda though I was tough or something haha. But now that I’m obsessed with heavier clothing, I wear heavier layers even when it’s warmer out. Almost feel like I’ve conditioned my body to get colder easier cause I love wearing heavy gear. “It’s 80°f out? I better put on my bareback!!?”
-
@Mizmazzle haha for real though, we condition our bodies with all this heavyweight gear. If I don't have long sleeves on and it's under 80F, I'm cold dagummit!

Delivered today.
Typically I am on the Larger spectrum of a large. Took this in a XL with the slight shrinkage in the OD process. Looks like a good fit. Impressed with the quality. Not quite the buttery hand that the OD denim exudes but very nice. Can slightly smell the suffer dye. Very soft brush on the inside. -
Just received from ups. Took a few pics before sunset. Great shirt!!
