I always answer the question 'Nice X, where did you get it from?' with 'eBay' regardless of what it is, or where I got it from.
Only recently did a friend do a little digging after noticing the IH tag on numerous shirts, and wouldn't stop banging on about how stupid it was that I decked out in about £1,500 worth of clothing in a shitty pub on a Tuesday evening (he's probably not wrong tbh...)
Funny thing is, he earns significantly more than me, but has waaaay less disposable income after his huge mortgage and the associated costs of raising three children.
We all have different priorities eh, if life goes to plan, mine will change in future too, and I'll just cherish the lifetime wardrobe I'll have had previously acquired

@T4920 this is pretty much the identical situation to what I described earlier. Its funny cuz i've never really thought of myself as a 'clothes person' either. This is just the path that my dissatisfaction with disposable shit led me down haha. Living in a pretty humble house, and having already invested in the collection of toys I'm content with, allows me to enjoy quality threads at my income level. My priority is basically to ensure the kids and wife are more than taken care of, and if I have some left over, get a shirt maybe lol

If one of us had worn a pair of IH jeans to the level of those Balenciagas we would probably want them hung on a wall. Couture is as much about ideas as form, and Balenciaga is about rebelling against luxury as something clean and pure. Just like Haraki has a vision to make something in a specific way, and it costs money to do that, same with Balenciaga. As an appreciator of well-designed clothing, stretching my limits of understanding of what well-designed means is an enjoyable aspect of the interest. I like the learning aspect of seeing something that is confusing and figuring out how it works on its own terms. Whether I want to wear it or not is a different question from whether the thing has merit in itself.

@T4920 I used to collect witty replies to be used in such situations. For example, "why do you care so much about my clothes when you obviously don't care about your own".

Does this look like pus to you?
