Anyone here play video games?

@T4920 Honestly I find the business behind videogames almost as much fun to follow as actually playing games themselves. I was all over the documents which were made public by the courts during Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard King. And Sony suffered a major breach last year via a hack on one of its developers (Insomniac) which also revealed some very tasty behind-the-scenes numbers and stats.

@popvulture what, no options for both?! Haha but on the real, you might be right! ️

@Seul muahahahha the madness is certainly serving its purpose!

Do not start playing Balatro. It is pure gaming crack. You'll be sat there, playing poker hands, until the small hours of the morning, completely oblivious to the passage of time.

I miss Chrono Trigger for the Super Nintendo. Best game ever made ...
-
@RobeOfTheMagi do you have a new-ish console?
A few great games have come out in recent years inspired by games such a Chrono Trigger.
Sea of Stars (has been described as a spiritual successor to CT) and Crosscode (one of my favourite games in recent years) come to mind.

I don't have a contemporary gaming device (yet); I've bought a Nintendo DS a few years back in order to play Chrono Trigger again.
Thanks for the great suggestions :)!

@RobeOfTheMagi I find myself playing 90% casual indy titles nowadays, puzzles game in particular! Not exactly putting the power of the PS5 to good use, but it's nice to have when a big title comes out I wanna try..
I played WoW too, and other MMOs many years back, but don't allow myself to play anything online nowadays cause I'm terrified of being recaptured in the thrall of gaming addiction once again...

Played through Firewatch over the last couple of evenings, short and sweet at around 3/4h long, but such a beautiful experience.
You play a character that has taken a job as a fire watch-man (I think that's the correct term...) at a National Park in Wyoming to get away from some demons, and things that have happened in his personal life.
The game flashes forward through a period of three months as you build a relationship with a mysterious colleague, whilst suspicious occurrences start to happen around you...
Any more info would spoil the experience, but if anyone is looking for a casual, narrative driven game you can have wrapped in little more than the length of a movie, I couldn't recommend it more.

@T4920 My PS5 tells me I've played 14 hours already, and it feels much shorter. I'm starting to get a feel for the game and how to create builds. Balatro is a fun little puzzle.

@EdH won my first run after 5/6 attempts.
Had this amazing Joker in the 5th slot that gave 3x Mult with only a 1/1000 chance of being destroyed at the end of each round.
Combined with the Misprint Joker and Level 17 Flush, I felt unstoppable
Such chaotic fun. I tried to play with a podcast on in the back this morning, but found myself really missing the quirky music.
Gonna try limit myself to one run per session, because you're 100% correct in saying that it's gaming crack...

That's Cavendish. He only shows up if you take the other banana card (the one with I think +15 Mult that has a 1/4 chance of expiring and that banana actually does expire (AFAIK, you can't sell it yourself, it has to expire naturally). Whenever I see the first banana I always take it because the chance to get that 3x Mult is very powerful and fits in pretty much any build. (As an aside, I like how repositioning Jokers has an effect on the game. Generally you want to go cards-that-add-chips/cards-that-add-Mult/cards-that-multiply-Mult to get the highest scores.)
My best run was a few days ago, found a Joker card that copied whatever was to the right of it, and stuck it next to a card that gave 3x Mult if I played a flush, so that was effectively x9 Mult right there. I also had one called The Baron which gives +15 Mult per King that is held in the hand, and then found a card that re-triggered all card-effects. With the help of Tarot cards to delete low-scoring cards and duplicate a load of Kings, I would basically discard cards until I had my flush and a nice set of Kings to leave in my hand, play the flush, and watch the score rack up. I got 10 million points with one hand at one point.
