IH-888S-21od - 21oz Selvedge Denim Medium/High Rise Tapered Cut Jeans - OD'd
-
Finally got my hands on a pair. I am anywhere from size 34-36, and went with a 34. Wanted something a bit snug in the waist as I’m sure they will stretch out. Also my weight fluctuates a lot as a lifter, so maybe this will keep me motivated to eat less
-
I think you got the right size. Tag 36 would be too big.
-
Ya def. A 35 would have worked too, but this 34 has already stretched a ton and it feels great.
-
The 21oz stretches generously. Anything bigger and you will get the diaper butt thing going on specially with the 888 cut and higher back rise.

Fellow squats enthusiast - how has the break-in been going?
Tried these on at SENY and the 34 was a perfect fit in the waist - just a little bit snug - but I still thought that they were just a touch stiff in the thighs. Definitely could not get my knees up to 90*. I've heard really mixed things on how much stretch you can get in the thighs on these. I feel like the measurement is pretty spot on as far as some other pairs I have, but with the thicker fabric it might be just a touch small.
I think the 34 will probably work - could also wait for a restock in the 35. What do y'all think?
-
@ajp5103 thats a solid 888 fit. I'd stick with the 34, the OD will probably stretch more than any other 21oz. Even my non-OD 21 oz pairs stretch plenty. So even if your waist fits a slight bit snug, they'll surely be perfect after some wears and the thighs should give some too.

Thanks! I went for it - got the last pair at SENY - and will let y'all know how it goes. No regrets, this is an incredible piece.

New to the forum here - and new to IH, so please bear with me. Posting this here since I’m particularly interested in the 888 cut, but the question is really more about the overdyed fabric.
I run quite hot, so I’m looking for jeans that are relatively breathable. I love the look of the overdyeds, and so was wondering if the overdying process in someway reduces the breathability of the fabric? In other words, for someone that has both a 14oz regular indigo and a 14oz OD, is there a difference?
The second question is about 14oz vs 21oz. I’ve handled and tried some of the 14oz (not the OD) but not the 21oz. I believe I read somewhere that while thicker, the 21oz is more breathable? Any truth to that or is the 21oz still hotter in general?
Lastly, I’m primarily looking to wear these in a work (office) setting. This is obviously completely dependent on personal preferences, but to me the OD fabric seems to give it a bit more of a “chino” or just less of a faded jean look - and certainly not looking for high contrast fades. Any thoughts from people on what would look “cleaner” - OD vs regular indigo - I’d love to hear too.
Apologies for basic questions. Love the look of the OD fabric and love the 888 fit. Just trying to figure out the best version to take the first plunge. Part of me thinks the 14oz OD would look great and not run too hot, and part of me thinks the 21oz indigo version would be the most “classic”/safe.
Hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance.

@lionheart first of all welcome to the forum! As an owner of a few different pairs of IH jeans, and two pairs of OD I think I can attempt to answer your questions.
The general consensus on here is that 21oz is more breathable than the tighter weave on the 14oz. I personally prefer the lighter weight through the warmer months though and wear 14oz from around March to October and then switch to 21oz.
Regarding the OD process, this tightens the weave and makes the jeans much less breathable, whether it’s 14oz or 21oz. I have worn 14oz OD in summer but can literally feel them absorbing the heat
So in answer to your question, maybe you could try the 14oz indigo for summer and some 21oz OD for winter? -
@DeeDee85 thanks that’s exactly the kind of insight I was looking for. Much appreciated
-
@lionheart no problem, happy to help, let us know how you get on
-
@DeeDee85 thank you will do!
I guess I need to wait for the restock regardless … but I think you convinced me to stay away from the OD for now.
Looking for the most versatile pair - which seems to be the 14oz - though I feel like I “should” try the 21oz. The only other curveball I’ll throw myself is the 17oz natural indigo, somewhat of a middle ground and I like the idea of something that won’t fade very quickly
To be continued!

@lionheart the great thing here is that there is no wrong answer.. all the IH denim is different but all of it is fantastic. I’m yet to try the natural indigo myself but I’m sure I’ll get to it one day. The 14oz and 21oz indigo seem to re-stock around once a year so you shouldn’t have to wait too long, or you could try a retailer that stock Iron Heart? Rivet & Hide here in the UK have most sizes of the 14oz and 21oz in stock across all cuts..
-
@lionheart also, in my experience the standard 14oz and 21oz indigo are by no means fast faders.. my 14oz have around 60 full days wear and one wash on them and are still very dark. Whiskers starting to appear and some electric blues around pocket areas and belt loops but that’s it. I don’t have enough wear on my 21oz to comment but the general opinion on here is that they are slow faders and end up with less high contrast areas and a more vintage look. One thing I’ll say about 21oz is that they are so insanely soft after a bit of wear, really comfortable. The 14oz feels a little tougher to me and perhaps more crispy.
Anyway I hope some of that helps and doesn’t just confuse you more looking forward to hearing how you get on
-
@lionheart In the big picture there is no right nor wrong pair of Ironhearts and I like to think of it like buying your first car. There’s a ton of choices to pick from, all of them will be great, they will always hold a special place in your heart, and you will most likely end up buying more.
The key thing in your decision process is deciding what traits you are looking for and it seems like you are well on your way. The guys at the IHUK shop are really good at helping you on that journey and are more than willing to help. Drop them an email: shop@ironheart.co.uk or even try chatting with them during business hours on the sales chat feature.
Good luck as it’s a fun journey

@goosehd @DeeDee85 thank you both a ton. That all makes sense and glad to hear there isn't really a "bad" one to stay away from. I had - admittedly, mostly fit related - some issues with my first and only foray into this space, so just a little fixated on getting the "right" pair the second time around.
I did had some conversations with the sales team already, and agreed - they're a super helpful bunch. Like you said though, it's all about personal preferences though so at the end of the day it's about what I'm looking for?
I think the 14oz is the rational choice, the 21oz is tempting because it's the flagship and has certain... qualities that people seem to be raving about... the 17oz natural indigo is a bit of a wildcard. I may ask the natural indigo folks for some of their experiences as well.
Much, much appreciated!

@lionheart I just started wearing the 17n and love the feel and look of the fabric and colour of the indigo.
The 16oz slubs are in my opinion the most breathable denim IH makes.
The 18oz are my favourite denim in weight, fades, and breathability.
The 17oz natural may be a close second to those 18oz and dare say could replace the 18’s as my favourite denim. Time will tell.
The 21oz and 25oz feel like sweatpant softness with time and wear. Really comfortable out of the bag and you can’t go wrong with the 21oz. Great starting point in the IH lineup.
I have no experience with the 14oz and at this point can’t help there.
