IH-888S-21 - 21oz Selvedge Denim Medium/High Rise Tapered Cut Jeans - Indigo
-
Morning all! Happy new year, hope everyone had a great holiday season. Was just wondering if a restock of these was imminent, was hoping to set myself up with some fresh denim for 2025. TIA

@ruffbadger this was the latest from a couple of weeks ago

Ah! Many thanks. Standing by.

I have a lot of IH shirts, but have never owned a pair of jeans. Looking to rectify that.
I’m 6’4 usually between 197-200 lbs and a true waist measurement of about 37.5 inches (any fat I put on goes to my stomach, and my stomach alone.
I bought a pair of the indigo 21 oz 555’s in tag size 36 (37.4 inch waist) that came in today, and oh my goodness, they were unwearable. Perfect in the waist and top block, but could barely get them over my thighs. They were like tights from the knee up, but awkwardly baggy from the knee down. My wife said they reminded her of the 90’s women’s flared leg jeans, LOL. Weird thing is, I don’t think a single person in the world would describe my thighs as thick.
Thinking of trying a pair of 888’s, but the dimensions kinda make me think they may actually be too baggy overall.
You guys think they are worth a shot or should I just wait for new batches to see if measurements change?

@Snafu generally speaking, the best course of action is to take a pair of denim that fits you, measure them the Iron Heart way (https://www.ironheart.co.uk/content/how-we-measure-bottoms) and then look for the fit that comes closest to those measurements.
You can also compare up to 3 different pairs on the website by clicking the "+ add to compare" button on the product page. This is for the 555-21, 666-21 and the 888-21:
https://www.ironheart.co.uk/module/leofeature/productscompare?list=359%2C779%2C1478
When looking at the waist dims also keep in mind that the 888 has a higher rise, as shown in this cut comparison:
https://www.ironheart.co.uk/content/cut-comparison
As far as "too baggy" is concerned, this is fairly subjective and ultimately comes down to your personal preference.

For me, 888 is the best cut around. Forgiving in the top block and thigh. Just the most classic and perfect taper below the knee to not look too skinny. It’s the perfect jeans for substantial boots. Engineers, Cowboy, wellingtons, etc.
First time I tried them on years ago at Self Edge in LA and what turned me off was some wide hip flaring. But what I, and others will report, is that flaring settles over time and with wear and begins to look natural. And it is precisely the extra fabric/room in the hip which makes these super mobile, comfortable and dare I say “airy”.
Embarrassingly, I have stacks of IH denim and the 888 has FINALLY answered my prayers.
In the 888 I have 25, 21 and 14oz. I can confidently get rid of everything else.
Just need some Ducks!
Good luck! -

You absolutely need some Ducks!

@Tago-Mago yeah man, recently, someone on eBay had brand new 888 33 ducks. They didn’t last an hour. Damnit!
@Snafu I also wanted to mention the miracle of the higher rise. Much more comfortable getting the jeans off my hip bones and closer to my lower gut. No more plumber’s crack. It’s so subtle that you can’t really tell looking at fit checks from other models of IH. But to experience it in person is revelatory.
Re: bagginess. I actually find the 634 to be somewhat baggy with a mid rise. I think it’s owed to lack of taper below the knee. YMMV. -
@Tago-Mago
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I never noticed the “compare” button so that’ll be a nice tool to use going forward.I measured out a pair of jeans I have that I really like (N&F Shinigami - weird guy fit) and the measurements were all very similar except for the knee. The 555’s were a tiny bit slimmer at the thigh, and that’s exactly what I was going for. I think I just grossly underestimated the knee measurement (8.6 on the 555 vs 9.6 on the Shinigamis) and how that taper from upper thigh to knee can affect the fit at the middle thigh.
No biggy though, still in the learning process and atleast IH customer service is top notch.
I’ll definitely be comparing around to see If I can find what I’m looking for.

Tag 36 in the 888 will give you the knee measurement that you are looking for. Now if you are use to really narrow hem widths, you will struggle. Tag 36 in any cut will have a hem width over 8 inches. Make sure you are ok with that. The 555 has the smaller knee measurement from all other cuts. Look at the 888 and maybe 777. 634 and 666 will have wider hem widths.

I will say that I learned the hard way to just buy the 888 21oz in pretty much a perfect fit right out of the bag as opposed to “have to lie down on bed and fight like mofo to even button top button” fit.
I recently upped it one size to a 31, and what a difference. My underwear doesn’t get as jacked up during the day.
I’ve worn them 6 times biking to and from work, and they fit great, not saggy. Just more easeful in the hips and waist. They still have that uncanny mould to your body quality.
I’m in my 50s and I’ve been the same weight/waist since my teens, nothing has changed. The 30 just never opened up as much as I thought they would. I personally advise against very snug waist out of the bag on these, but YMMV.
-
I also bought size 33 even though I could squeeze into a new pair in size 32; I'm really glad I did not size down. The slightly more comfy size allows me to be active in the jeans. At the end of the day, that's what I'm looking for.
-
Yup. Another option that I utilized to find a perfect, slightly more fitted new 30 was to ask for the crack IH team to basically find the biggest 30 for me, waist and front rise. So now I have a slightly looser more casual 31 pair and a pinpoint fitted but not tight 30 pair. Perfect.
The reality is that pretty much no other denim retailer goes to these lengths to help people. Super expensive but the 21oz indigo is unmatched and so is the IH team.
Straight talk.

@drewfonse
Can confirm. I had gotten a couple pairs of 35W thinking the approx 1” stretch would de me perfect. And it did…until I gained back some lost weight. I’ll be sizing up for a comfort fit right out of the gate going forward. No point risking inability to wear something bc I put a couple lbs back on after a year -
Checking with the IH team, did I miss the restock here with the other 21oz cuts? Cheers
-
does anyone know how similar in cut these are to wrangler 13mwz?
-
No hands on experience here but from just taking a look I think you will find that the 888 thigh is more relaxed as one of the main differences.
If you have a pair, I would for sure recommend measuring them using our how we measure guide and compare to the size chart to see how they compare and differ. This will also help you select the correct tag size if you've got your eye on snagging a pair.
-
@akohut I have both and they fit very similar. As Graham said, the measurements are key to finding a pair of 888's that fit you like the Wrangler 13mwz. Across all the IH cuts, the 888 are the closest.
-
PS...don't go by tag size. They are dramatically different. For example, I generally wear 35 or 36 in IH-888 and 33 in Wranglers 13mwz.
