Bluegrass / Country Music - Who Plays??
-
@chillmonroe yeah that thing sounds incredible man
-
@chillmonroe nice pickin man!! Listened to a fair amount of bluegrass in the early 2000s. The collabs between Jerry Garcia and David Grisman were my gateway
-
Thanks dude! Hell yeah
PIZZA TAPES FTW
-
Made a quick video today of an old Norman Blake song called Green Light on the Southern, on my 1934 Gibson Jumbo
-
@chillmonroe Really love your playing man and thanks for starting this thread. I’m not much of a picker but I was raised by a couple of Missouri hippies during the 70’s and grew up listening to a bunch of bluegrass. Some of my favorites are Doc Watson, John Hartford, Flatt and Scruggs, The Del McCoury Band, Tony Rice, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Nickel Creek and Blue Highway. Love Billy Strings, Critter, Julian Lage. Cheers and looking forward to discovering some other new artists in this thread.
-
@LewisStonehouse great job on that Tony song, one of my favorites
-
@SKT thanks man, always a work in progress. Not all of us can be Billy Strings haha.
And hell yeah man, all those bands are on heavy rotation in this house. Peep these trucker hats I made a couple years back when I had my own bluegrass merch business, before having kids derailed my spare time
If you haven’t heard of them, I’d recommend checking out the Po Ramblin Boys. The mandolin player is a buddy of mine and they rip so hard in the old Stanley Brothers / Osborne Brothers traditional style
-
@chillmonroe ha! Love those hats and I’ll give em a spin. Thanks for the recommendation
-
@SKT oh and dude, speaking of Blue Highway, I got to jam with Tim Stafford at the Henderson Festival a couple years ago. Epic times
-
@SKT thank you! It’s such a great song
-
Just started taking private lessons from this dude after watching this. He is def my favorite flatpicker and I’m so pumped he gives lessons. This video on its own is a gold mine
-
David Grier is a monster picker! Always loved his playing. Have fun with the lessons and I’m sure you’ll pick up a thing or two.
-
@chillmonroe Nice picking! Is that your ‘38 D28? That thing is a beast. My son is the real picker in the house and is in a couple of Bluegrass bands. I’m a couch picker at best
Here’s a video of him from a few years ago jamming before a show …
-
@Denman-John sounds great. Which one is he? Brutal to have the guitar facing the other way and the mandolins facing the camera but you can still hear the guitarist rip.
That was my ‘38 D28. Sadly had to let it go to fund a kitchen remodel. Ended up with the sick 1934 Jumbo I posted above though and man I love that thing
-
@chillmonroe He’s the young guy on the left playing mandolin
He also plays guitar, bass and a little fiddle.
-
@Denman-John all fiddles are little
Sorry, had to. He’s good! I’ve been pickin’ a little mandolin lately. Scored a 1913 F4 a few months back and it sounds incredible
