Iron Heart X Simmons Bilt Horsehide Western Shirt - The Pale Rider - Natural

Maybe not the best place for it… but here goes.
Check out @outlawarchive on IG. Great history, controversial opinions, and pics of 70’s style and steez for days.
Also, the best podcast I’ve ever listened to is Relative Unknown. Holy shit it blew me away!!! And a big time local connection for me.

BACK TO THE LABORATORY, IGOR!!!
Unable to leave well enough alone, more experimenting today.
I was unhappy with the waviness that happened in the placket. And I’m still looking for an avenue to soften the leather.
-I wore it in a warm shower.
-slathered it with Bick’s neatsfoot oil. (This might be the secret sauce, TBD).
-Hung it on a hanger with a towel for padding. Hoping to avoid shoulder bumps
-weighed down the placket with crescent wrenches, using rags in between the metal and the leather. Just tight enough to keep the tools from falling off.
-also hung wrenches on the side. Why the sides? After wearing it the first time, the stomach area was flared from sitting down.
-now drying in the sun. It’s very cold here. 40 degrees F.
I swear this is my last effort to intervene on this jacket. Just hard wear going forward.
Full results with fit pics when it dries completely.
Again, no regrets with these experiments. I find it impossible to hurt this shirt/leather. Just hopefully getting closer to a functional, comfy moto shirt/jacket. -
@Autorotate it looks less wavy to me. Whether or not the weights work the colour is just stunning!
-
Has anyone used the Obenauf's Heavy Duty Leather Preservative on the shirt? Any pointers on how and how much to apply?
-
@Autorotate salted caramel flavored color! You def doong something unique my man! Love it
-
I really love that colour @Autorotate
-
@Autorotate this become one stunning piece!!
And it shines like it was polished over the years, everyday.
I love all about it! -
I was inspired…Thank you @Autorotate
I will get better pictures when I have good light and it’s completely dried.
-
Oh man awesome @goosehd cant wait to see it!!!
-
Just got home from a day wearing it out. Has anyone who has been complimented on this shirt actually heard “nice shirt”? Haha. I honestly only ever hear “nice jacket” and that speaks to how heavy duty this thing is
-
@marco23d the very first time I wore it out of the house, I got a “that is an awesome leather western shirt”. I was actually surprised, but he was just echoing my own internal dialogue. Hahaha.

@Iron-Heart-Germany said in Iron Heart X Simmons Bilt Horsehide Western Shirt - The Pale Rider - Natural:
Maybe Giuli thought he was somewhere in Texas, but it ended up being just Hamburg and our crappy construction site in front of the store... but it was cool for the photo shoot. A horse would have been good too.
Love the colour and contrast of Giuli PR is that just natural wear or has it been conditioned?
-
@goosehd is it dry yet?
-
Nice! Love to read about these projects on this particular shirt! Stoked

@goosehd here's what I determined after a whole bunch of experiments. I think oil only is best for this particular leather. Anything with beeswax or vaseline type stuff is going to make the leather rubbery. This tanning formula is really odd to me. I've handled over 50 leather jackets and I still can't figure it out. I think it's a veg tanned CXL combo or is veg tanned with thick top coat.
I gave my shirt another hand wash but this time didn't do any conditioner, and so far it's the softest it's ever been. Maybe it's just a combo of all the wears and work so far, but I think it's more about the conditioner unnecessarily adding more to the top coat. think this leather needs to breath and get exposed to the elements to really come to life.

I’m still on the road working, but my Pale Rider was delivered. I’m just wondering if anyone has paired theirs with white jeans? If so, how does it look?
-
@Vaperfavour1313 from snake oil provisions
