Nem, your fades on these are starting to become really interesting. I know you won't agree, but I still think one size smaller would look really good on you.

Keep your jeans on–-and let nothing come in between you and the denim !

cant do one size smaller,,thats why you got em,,way too restrictive,,plus my DC4001s are my IH tighter/slimmer fit,,with these 634s they can be worn whilst riding my 1200  without turning blue and passing out  then waking up to find some fekker had cut em up to fix my broken bits 😉

I think any smaller and they would look too tight. These are a classic straight leg. If you want any slimmer change your cut IMO. Nems fit is perfect.

                  Hi everybody, 🙂

New to this forum and very excited about my first pair of 634s. Hopefully going to get a pair of 32"s as soon as they are back in stock. Bought my first pair of real jeans (12oz oneculture's) after chancing upon the denim debate around 3 years ago. My waist measured with tape was 33" and ended up pulling the trigger on 30" pair, which in hindsight, were much too small, mainly in the thighs. I am on the motorbike most days commuting so with the tight thighs, the crotch blew out numerous times and was repaired numerous times+1. Nevertheless, I soldiered on for around a year, before I came to my senses and said "these jeans are too tight".

Anyway boring anecdote over, I'm ready to jump back in the saddle with a new pair of real jeans. I am quite small at approx 170cm/70kg and generally favour jeans that have a bit of a taper, but with my thighs I think I need to at least give a decent pair of straight cuts a chance.

I tried on all my different pairs of jeans and took measurements. Below is measurement spectrum from these pairs, where my ideal fit would be somewhere near or between the following:

                  Waist:      16 5/8" snug fit
                  Fr. Rise:  10-11"
                  Bk. Rise:  14.5 - 15"
Thigh:      12.5" probably as tight as I can go, ideally closer to 13" would be better.
                  Knee:      8.8"
                  Hem:      7 1/4 - 8"

Using my thighs as the limiting measurement, I reckon I need at least the 32". From reading most of this thread, sizing down to the 32" doesn't seem like a bad idea. Does this make any sense? Should I go for the 32" when my true waist is 33.5"?

Also, just wondering roughly when there will be 32" waists back in stock?

                  Thanks in advance.

I think that a 32 in the 634s is probably the size you would want. The 21 oz denim is pretty easy to stretch and very forgiving. You should also note that in that size the hem is about an inch larger than your ideal…

Thanks for help, yeah I know that the 634's will be more roomy down around the ankles, but from some fit pics they look almost tapered and if I really want them tapered, might just pop in to the tailor and get then tapered a bit from the knee, and forsake cuffing them. Actually, can they be tapered from the inside seam so I can keep the lovely selvedge.

Yes, it's definitely not a bad cut by any means. You could have them tapered if you wanted to as well, but you might find you don't even need to. It really depends on your footwear about how large the hem looks.

I pretty much Winter in Iron rangers and any warmish days i'm in Desert Boots, so both of those should be fine. Summer in birkenstocks might look a bit off but sure i'll just cuff em higher and should be grand.

I saw earlier in the thread that people have got them tapered and the results looked good. Do jeans have to be tapered on the selvedge side or is it possible to get them tapered on the inside seam?

                          Thanks for input btw. 🙂

I  not a fan of messing with the cut but that's just me.

This cut, at least on me (size 33) is a boot-friendly cut. I have some skinnier jeans for sneakers.

                            Think it, be it.

No prob….and jeans can be tapered just fine and still keep the selvedge. You just have to make sure you ask they take it in from the inseam and not the outseam....

Well make sure it's a REALLY good tailor if you are gonna mess with em - but might want to look at other cuts if you want a smaller hem (i.e. 555). I agree with MC, although I know some people have had luck with tailoring…

I spend all summer in birkies and the 634S. It's a grand look indeed. I've had no need to taper. Let me know if you want to be flooded with images of 634S+Birkenstocks, there's quite a few back earlier in the WAYWT back around Jan 2013.

Yeah was looking at a guy called the Denim doctor from Uk, he looks legit enough. I would never get my thighs into the 555s, unless I went for a 35 or 36" waist.

Awesome, I'll have a good root. Are they in the general WAYWT or the boot/shoe thread?
