@GardenState thank you! I'm waiting for their return and will take a couple more pictures under natural light. or, the guys at IHUK could put them under their lens? @Graham
-
@scarfmace I know these fade faster than the xhs but do they also produce higher contrast fades. They look that way to me.
-
@GardenState I couldn't tell you, I have not yet owned a pair of XHS.
-
@GardenState yes they do

I followed the Iron Heart care instructions and hot soaked these in a tub for an hour. Then washed them (no detergent) with hot water, no spin, drip dry. As you can see in the photos, I asked @Giles to sign a pocket bag last weekend while he was conveniently standing near Haraki out back of IHHQ in Gosport. He then motioned towards the Boss with the marker I handed him and of course I nodded my head. Thanks, G!!!
Later, I was briefly speaking with @neph93 about how I was unsure which new denim to start with as I have an unworn pair of 888XHSib waiting for me too at home. He then suggested to simply just wear both. Great idea Reuben! I'll start these UHR tomorrow and my 888XHSib on Halloween, which will make a year since starting my 634XHS. Mayve a two year, two denim rotation journey. Woo!

@Mizmazzle full nerd!

I had the 888 in hand at the party, but besides the fact that it feels like a self-defence weapon, my usual 36" would be too tight with the 1" expected waist shrinkage.... Will focus instead this winter on the 634-XHSib! Have fun with it @Oaktavia!

This is looking like a good autumn project

@Luijim78 how did they fare in the hot summers in Italy? I'll be wearing mine this summer too but I'll enjoy them in the cooler months first. Easier to break in that way!
@Tago-Mago UHR so far are incredible. I have not had a new pair, only second hand ones that I haven't worn or Reloved (like last weekend). I'm defo partial to UHR for their heavyweight excellence.
@Tobi I think you commented something similar when you saw them in my hands at the party too, haha. 634XHSib is a fantastic denim, one of my all time favorites for sure and an amazing fader. Glad you are focusing on them this winter and I look forward to your progress pics!
@Nik for sure, it'll be an all seasons project soon enough. At work today, the denim is creasing beautifully already. It's also nice to be back in the 888 cut. I love 634, but I fell more in my element with 888.

@Oaktavia I live 15km from the Adriatic Sea and 30km from the Sibillini Mountains, once (up to 10 years ago) the 4 seasons were very distinct (hot summers but not excessively) and not too cold winters (rarely below zero but it snowed often if not always), now summer lasts 4/5 months and winters almost never go below 10 degrees , I love winter and for me it was really difficult to get used to this new climate

Hi guys,
just purchase these bad boys and have a few questions as it's my first UHR piece and quite anxious about losing my "shrink to fit" -virginity!
I know there's a lot of info and about as many tips as there are users on this matter, but just to be on the safe side I would appreciate some additional advice on the initial soak/wash process. I bought a tag size 38 and they are currently quite relaxed and loose on the top. I prefer to have them a bit more snug at least on the top parts. Is the "right" way to go if I put them inside out in a tub with warm (approx 30c) water for 1-2 hours and then wash them without any detergents in the washing machine?
Or is the soak enough by itself? I know there should be some agitation on the denim for it to shrink properly, so not sure if the soak is enough. I wish to have the waist go down about an inch and will have them hemmed to an 30 inseam, so I would really need to have all the shrinkage out of the jeans before this.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

@Opa This is the gospel:
Here is the full, official Iron Heart wash guide for UHR denim:
“ULTRA HEAVY RAW (UHR) DENIM
An initial soak or wash is particularly important with this denim, as it is very stiff and abrasive in its raw state, so can cut through the constructional stitching if not bedded in. The denim is loom-state (there has been no post weave processing performed on the denim), so it will shrink and skew. Our UHR jeans are designed to be “shrink to fit”, so after washing or soaking a couple of times they will shrink to tag size. You are likely to see about one inch shrinkage in the waist and two inches shrinkage in the inseam. When you get your jeans, soak them in a bathtub or large sink of cold water for a few hours. Then turn them inside-out and wash them in a washing machine* at no hotter than 30 degrees C (circa 90 degrees F), you do not need to add washing powder or detergent. Ideally no spin (or very slow spin) and don’t put them in a tumble dryer, it is far better to allow them to air dry (still inside-out). Before they are completely dry, turn right side out and try to smooth out all the wrinkles.”
