IH-888S-UHR - 21/23oz Ultra Heavy Raw Selvedge Denim High Rise Tapered Cut Jeans
-
Hi guys,
just purchase these bad boys and have a few questions as it's my first UHR piece and quite anxious about losing my "shrink to fit" -virginity!
I know there's a lot of info and about as many tips as there are users on this matter, but just to be on the safe side I would appreciate some additional advice on the initial soak/wash process. I bought a tag size 38 and they are currently quite relaxed and loose on the top. I prefer to have them a bit more snug at least on the top parts. Is the "right" way to go if I put them inside out in a tub with warm (approx 30c) water for 1-2 hours and then wash them without any detergents in the washing machine?
Or is the soak enough by itself? I know there should be some agitation on the denim for it to shrink properly, so not sure if the soak is enough. I wish to have the waist go down about an inch and will have them hemmed to an 30 inseam, so I would really need to have all the shrinkage out of the jeans before this.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

@Opa This is the gospel:
Here is the full, official Iron Heart wash guide for UHR denim:
“ULTRA HEAVY RAW (UHR) DENIM
An initial soak or wash is particularly important with this denim, as it is very stiff and abrasive in its raw state, so can cut through the constructional stitching if not bedded in. The denim is loom-state (there has been no post weave processing performed on the denim), so it will shrink and skew. Our UHR jeans are designed to be “shrink to fit”, so after washing or soaking a couple of times they will shrink to tag size. You are likely to see about one inch shrinkage in the waist and two inches shrinkage in the inseam. When you get your jeans, soak them in a bathtub or large sink of cold water for a few hours. Then turn them inside-out and wash them in a washing machine* at no hotter than 30 degrees C (circa 90 degrees F), you do not need to add washing powder or detergent. Ideally no spin (or very slow spin) and don’t put them in a tumble dryer, it is far better to allow them to air dry (still inside-out). Before they are completely dry, turn right side out and try to smooth out all the wrinkles.”

I’m sure this has been asked but is this stiffer than the 21oz after initial soak? I have the 25oz and it’s just too stiff
