@GraemeE I mean, it really depends on your definition of affordable. I think my VPI 16.5 was $550 back in like 2006 when I bought it. That think is built to last so I don't see myself ever buying something else. I'm sure they cost significantly more these days. But this Humminguru ultrasonic thing seems fairly well regarded from what I've heard: https://humminguru.com/

@setandsetting thanks I'll take a look.
I think $500 and under would probably be my sweet spot.My brain knows it's a necessary and worthwhile investment I just always end up spending my money on the records themselves
-
@setandsetting I’d love to get an ultrasonic. Haven’t made the leap yet. I do have my cleaning regimen. I’ve had great results with it.
-
@waXology here’s my 2nd press Bleach and my Blew EP. Bought before these things skyrocketed.
-
@setandsetting oh sick!!! One of my dream records is the white fist press of Bleach. Probably not gonna happen haha.
-
@setandsetting ahhh I miss the Blew 12" Hold onto all those!
I grew up in Aus listening to them so hence my love of collecting the Aus Bleach versions and also anything Aus related.
I had their very first single, Love Buzz, number 88/1000 which had come from the bands original manager. Can't afford one now though

Yeah, that would be my ideal but when I bought this I was aiming just for a copy from the original stampers, pre-CD reissue. The 3rd pressing done in various colors would have fit the bill too, this one just came into my lap.
-
@setandsetting no man. What you have is badass. I just have a somewhat recent reissue of Bleach. I’d love to hear an early pressing.
-
@GraemeE I tend to skip studio stuff after Blues For Allah instead going to live recordings for my fix of those songs. But you can't deny the songs on Shakedown are classics.
My current Dead listening is largely the In and Out of the Garden box from last year. I don't think I every realized that '81-'83 they were pretty great.
And also I just threw a vintage Dead pin on my IH jean vest.

Bandcamp has a profile of the label Black Editions who have been reissuing a bunch of Japanese noise-rock from the 80s/90s originally on the P.S.F. label--Tokyo Flashback comp, White Heaven, High Rise, etc.

@SKT I somehow missed this one!
This Year's Model is really among his very best. I think basically all of the best stuff was in the MFSL reissues, but there have been some later releases that have been very good as well — I love how he's just a restless, hungry guy who just has to keep making music. If you've ever heard him talk, it's pretty clear he's just nuts about it. Inspiring to see someone who's never stopped being excited.
I think my favorite records of his are Trust and Imperial Bedroom. "New Lace Sleeves" on the former is, in my opinion, really just one of the best songs ever. And IB was sort of his attempt at Sgt Pepper. Oy, "Man Out of Time" and "Beyond Belief" just slay me. Flawless.
Anyway! I promise one of these days I'll take some pics. Anybody who knows me on here knows I'm pretty terrible about participating in that respect, haha...
