I’m quite surprised so many people are sizing up in these. I’m 6’4, 190 ish pounds and the XL is quite roomy on me. I wear XL typically in IH and only size up to XXL in UHF’s as I need the extra length.
Mine was pre-faded in the arms too from rubbing in the packaging, it is what it is. My expensive Sashiko western from Ship John was the exact same in this regard. I’ll say that I MUCH prefer this fabric compared to the previous 380. I still don’t really consider these to be a true Sashiko, nice shirt either way!
I preordered the ShipJohn Sashiko last week, and have the IHSH-397 inbound. How would you compare the 2?

@Mizmazzle perfect fit IMHO
-
@Mizmazzle spot on! Congrats dude!
-
@Mizmazzle awesome man, glad it lived up to the hype!
Can you get get that second button fastened comfortably? We're a similar size so I'm glad you went for the L..
I've worn it every evening since getting it (too wet/warm to wear outside atm) and it's softened up significantly, and somehow feels even better now.
100% my new favourite shirt, especially considering I managed to avoid to 'racing stripes'... Whilst I understand why this happens, if I receive a shirt in that condition again I'll be returning it.
Maybe I'm just overly neurotic, but the way it looks really bugs me. It's definitely not just the way the light is hitting the folds as mentioned previously, and doesn't become much less noticeable with time and washes. Really ruins the uniformity and slickness of an otherwise beautiful garment for me..
Excuse the rant. Obviously I love the brand, but I like to think that constructive criticism will always be welcome here, lest we all become mindless sycophants.

@T4920 i have no problem to tell IH when they fuck up, believe me ! Creases on a folded product is normal … it was the same with all my shirts and my 526 PJ as well. It doesn’t stay.
If after first wash some are still experiencing the racing lines then yes there is a problem but not when it is just brand new and folded. -
Got mine in the mail yesterday
-
Mines like that dosent bother me once these start fading that’s a miner imo
-
@dublinpremium Looks great!
-
@Mister_Brue thank you
-
@Germinal of course, and yeah I'm referring to instances of it still being present after wash/wear. Had the issue myself with the Black Serge Western. Bothers me less now because it's become my 'don't give a fuck shirt' which I wash after every wear (and tbh I love the way it's developing a more chaotic worn/marbled look) but it still very much has faded in grey lines where the initial creases laid.

@T4920 Gonna need to see that 235-BLK now!
-
@FourHorsemen I have the SJ and from my understanding it's a much heavier fabric and a bit higher quality fabric, despite listed at 16oz. It really depends on body type and preference in fit, and I know IH tends to fit some folks better. For me (6-2, 195) they both work well for me. I just happened to buy SJ first and no need for 2 similar styles when so much on the horizon tempts me. We live in the golden age of excess and clothing options.
Curious to hear your comparison once you spent time with them. -
@Tago-Mago got all dressed up to take one, but sorely underestimated how difficult it actually is to get a good photo…

@Anesthetist I'd be upset with those distinct fade lines on a brand new high dollar shirt. They should have pulled that one and any others that were "bad". I realize these are unique fabrics and weaves with deep indigo but that needs to be taken into account when being produced. Nobody would take a pair of jeans with that down each leg. Someone needs to comp you.
The lines don’t bother me… but, you’re completely within your rights to raise concerns on a shirt that costs nearly half a thousand dollars. To each their own!

@msafrons As others have said, make sure you find a good tailor.
I was recommended one by Junior from Rivet and Hide, who does their alterations for them (Pinnas and Needles, who are excellent).
I have had multiple IH jeans, jackets and shirts altered by them.
I now use two tailors, Pinnas and Needles for anything more complex / on more expensive garments and then a local tailor I trust for more straight forward things. If you have not had a recommendation, then I would take another garment along as a ‘trial run’.

@nrtphotos I bought an XL & for ref, I’m 6’1 and 175#. I am in between sizes on this and being a thicker fabric I am happy I went up. It is a little loose in the waist but as it continues to soften I imagine it wont be so pronounced.
Sorry for the crap pic, it’s been super overcast.! -
@Anesthetist looks solid man, and I dig those black Bostons.
