@Anesthetist I'd be upset with those distinct fade lines on a brand new high dollar shirt. They should have pulled that one and any others that were "bad". I realize these are unique fabrics and weaves with deep indigo but that needs to be taken into account when being produced. Nobody would take a pair of jeans with that down each leg. Someone needs to comp you.
The lines don’t bother me… but, you’re completely within your rights to raise concerns on a shirt that costs nearly half a thousand dollars. To each their own!

@msafrons As others have said, make sure you find a good tailor.
I was recommended one by Junior from Rivet and Hide, who does their alterations for them (Pinnas and Needles, who are excellent).
I have had multiple IH jeans, jackets and shirts altered by them.
I now use two tailors, Pinnas and Needles for anything more complex / on more expensive garments and then a local tailor I trust for more straight forward things. If you have not had a recommendation, then I would take another garment along as a ‘trial run’.

@nrtphotos I bought an XL & for ref, I’m 6’1 and 175#. I am in between sizes on this and being a thicker fabric I am happy I went up. It is a little loose in the waist but as it continues to soften I imagine it wont be so pronounced.
Sorry for the crap pic, it’s been super overcast.! -
@Anesthetist looks solid man, and I dig those black Bostons.

I went with my usual size on this and measurements worked for me. Fabric is truly exceptional.
I was concerned that it may be too similar to the dobby cloth cpo, but completely different.
Beautiful dark indigo and purplish tones and a rich texture reminiscent of scales. Nicest example of sashiko that I have seen.
Asked for IH to make sashiko almost ten years ago now. Glad that Haraki finally changed his mind!

@Oaktavia thanks Stevie. The clogs are horsehide Zerrows. I like them a lot!
-
@Anesthetist Looks great really suits you
-
@Anesthetist oh shoot! I need to peep those closer.

@FourHorsemen good question. The SJ is very long, I actually like this as I find most IH is barely long enough for my size and taste - I have to size up in UHF’s for the extra bit of length and I find they are not a great fit as a result. The SJ is also a more tailored modern fit, I like this too. As for the fabric, they feel pretty similar in terms of weight. I own a PBJ sashiko jacket and consider PBJ the absolute king of Sashiko, SDA isn’t far behind. The IH stuff labeled as Sashiko isn’t really Sashiko IMO, the SJ stuff is a bit more in line but not the puffy stitches you will see on some of the real deal fabrics. My SJ shirt actually has a couple minor QC issues, they are not made in house by SJ. The IH shirt was as expected in terms of fit and finish. If I had a gun to my head and could only keep one it would probably be the SJ as it’s a bit better fit for me, I’m happy to have both, though!

Thanks for the helpful review!! What were the QC issues? Do you know where the SJ shirts are made?

@Buckeye there was a huge eight inch loose thread inside on of the sleeves, it was kind of sewn into the seam in various areas. They told me it shouldn’t be a problem and to cut it, haven’t had issues so far. The side tag also was torn a new one, looks like it got sucked into the sewing needle somehow? It was full of holes. I was a little choked about that, it is what it is.
Ship John farms out quite a few of their products to other companies to produce. I think just about everything besides the waxed fabrics is sewn by different companies. Personally, I think they should be a little more upfront about this, as they often talk about the associated costs of paying their staff fair wages - those staff aren’t making the a lot of the products. IMO this is also how stuff like my shirt made it out of QC, should have probably been a seconds offering.

Received mine today . I was quite nervous about the sizing. I stayed TTS after checking the sizing chart carefully. Couldn’t have asked for a better fit. Just as I prefer it. Got a nice sample without any greases on sleeves etc.
Gonna wear it for my first day at new job tomorrow. And the day after and the day after and… -
@PJ Nice way to start the new job, they will all be checking you out! Congrats
-
@PJ Well that looks terrible…
Good choice going TTS. Perfect.
-
@RubyRae Thanks!
-
@nrtphotos Thanks guys, much appreciated! Looking forward to both of them. IH should be here Wednesday. SJ not until “before end of the year”, so I’ll have Fall and part of Winter to break the IH in a bit
-
@RubyRae they actually released the 389 CPO back I want to say in April. I picked one up and it’s by far my favorite IH I have owned. I want to say it’s 12oz but still it’s a head turner I get compliments all the time.
-
@clutchdealer Close, it was released in March. 12oz is absolutely correct
