Iron Heart Products - What do you think we should make?
-
My thinking is that it is a nod to the way wabash (which pre-dates denim at least as a work wear fabric) was originally produced. They would print starch spots onto a fabric and then garment dye it in indigo, and the starch spots wouldn't take the dye, leaving behind the dotted pattern. So, being garment-dyed (or overdyed in IH parlance), it resembled what Haraki has created more than it would a white-wefted denim with dots on it.
What's interesting about Haraki's approach is that it is not a garment-dyed technique, it is rope dying warp and weft and using discharge dying (bleaching a dotted pattern). But it more reselmbles that original technique.
I think it's very clever.
Everything you're suggesting is possible, and I do think a fugitive overdye could be interesting on the fabric.
I'm not sure whether The Flat Head still makes Wabash shirts, but theirs are discharge dyed, white-wefted denim.

I love my 7oz soft flannel. I do t know how universally popular they were, but if annually the fabric was offered in a different solid monotone in either a work or western cut I would be interested every time. The fabric just feels so different than all my otherr IH stuff

Has anyone said 25oz indigo/black vest?
Ive been really flip flopping on if I need a 25 oz vest, but a IB variant would have me queueing up for sure

21oz ib
would be awesome

I totally agree - I’m also hoping for the release of an IH-526SVib (21oz Selvedge Denim Modified Type III Vest - Indigo Black) - please?!

Thanks for the explanations ^^ A OD wabash would be great

+1 - my two lightweight IH flannels are super-versatile in my experience (UK, muggy, overcast, you get the idea …)

Good call. I am not a vest guy for the most part, but a cord vest with those bronze buttons would be great too.

Duck cargo shorts.

A lighter toned blue denim shirt like this beauty from @seul & TW:
This shirt is amazingly soft and has faded amazingly well. I love my NIN but an even softer blue would be a great spring/summer piece. I would wear this shirt more often if it fit me better.

All these casual shorts dropping makes me think IH board shorts (made out of a quick-drying fabric; actual long swim trunks) would be instacop for me given the right design (maybe the IH bell logo placed low on one of the legs or as a pattern, and/or perhaps some of the more metal or more Harley iconography we’ve seen on shirts and stickers?)
Might be a good place to introduce a dual entry cargo pocket that I’ve mentioned here before (top access, and side access such that when you’re sitting on your bike on the way to the beach you can fish things out from the side facing up as you sit, both secured by zippers).
Another thing to at would be cool would be a “ziploc” sealed plastic pouch to stow cash or a small wallet and keep them dry. This could go into the cargo pocket and could be attached with a clip. If no cargo pocket, I’ve seen them attach to the interior waistband.
This is way more prescriptive a request than I would normally make but it sounds cool in my head.
