Great idea! I am looking for years on the Simmonsbilt Donkey Jacket.
But I´d love to see the pockets in a kind of IH style!

Apologies if this has been asked, but will there be a 634S-sbg?
-
I rather like something along these lines..
-
Looks like Kevin Rowland.. Yes, nice jacket shape but no shoulder detail.. Which I like
-
why is it called a donkey jacket?
reminds me of the chore/work jackets Iron Heart does but in wool
-
It was traditionally worn by dockers discharging and loading cargo the equipment used was a steam winch called a donkey hence the name donkey jackets worn by the men involved think @neph93 had an original from Liverpool Docks
-
@Black Orchid It is Kevin Rowland Well all of the Runners in fact.
They're very thick Monday. Proper work jackets.
Absolutely no idea why they're called Donkey jackets though. Worn by the fellas doing all the donkey work maybe?Scratch that then…. -
The winch on the docks was called a donkey, hence the name
-
Ah, thank you.

Collar's a bit big for me. Love the collar on the one worn by the geezer second in from the left:
I've had two, one short collar and one long collar. Pure style-wise I prefer a long collar.

They are thick and heavy wool, normally lined. Sometimes flannel, sometimes tartan. The patch on the shoulder and back was leather on the older ones but some kind of plastic on newer ones. As Danny mentioned they acquired strong associations with working class militant socialism during the 80's because they were used by miners, dockers, ship builders amongst others. Trades with strong politically engaged unions.

Spring weight flannels with a not too crazy pattern just like the 22/23.
-
Oxidized metal snaps. Similar to the copper snaps on some shackets. I think silver oxidized snaps would be awesome on an overdyed shacket like the 99. The snaps would start totally black and slowly fade/age down to silver with wear.

Giles, did you ever think about making jeans out of hemp? If you send me your head size I will get you one of those hemp hats I like so you can see how heavy and soft it is.
