Hard Drinkers, Lets Drink Hard (Spirits, Liquors and Cocktails)
-
As Morose Penguin has been derelict in his duty to set up a hard liquor thread, here it is. This is the place to discuss your favourite spirits, liquors and cocktails…..also mulled wine, regionally brewed potions for all you alcoholic alchemists out there.
My favourite tipple of an evening.......
I also enjoy Irish Whiskey, and an occasional White Russian
-
And just to add, I expect that much of this thread will degenerate into people discussing obscure Scottish distilleries, and their particular method of ageing their product etc….
When it comes to spirits, I am no alcohol snob, I sincerely believe that some of the best spirits are are the most well known. In the case of dark rum, I have never found one to better Havana Club 7 anos, in the case of Irish Whiskey I find Jamesons to be as good as anything, and in the case of Vodka I find that Polish Bison Grass Vodka matches anything produced in Russia.
Thats my 2 cents.

Lies, it's all lies… Well ok I did say LAST week, but I was going to do it today (honest).
Well as Mega has got the ball rolling, I shall continue:
This year: Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix. Limited bottling from 2010, when the weight of snow on a couple of the warehouses caused the roofs to collapse.
This was created with some of the barrels.
I also have a Gordon and Mcphail bottling of a (10 year I think) Mortlach. Unfortunately this was bought in France (not the unfortunate part as the tax is far less), just as the whole "you can't bring more than 100ml of liquid onto flights" was instigated.
And I'm too paranoid to have it posted to me. And my parents keep forgetting to bring it over :(. I stare at it lovingly every year or so. Pics in July :). It was bought from an amazing shop in Rennes. It was only small but one entire wall was filled floor to ceiling with whisky :). And the manager was very knowledgable, having worked in a few shops in Edinburgh for years.
Sorry to go on
Last year:
Year before:
The first whisky I ever bought (and continue to buy often). I love the combination of flavours, it's just fantastic!
I could drink it forever… (if my liver didn't give out).
I usually stick to buying one or two bottles a year. Only buying more if I'm feeling flush.
Japanese whisky: Usually Yamazaki 12 year old or Hibiki (blended)
Irish Whiskey: Connemara, first tried on a trip to Dublin about 7 years ago. If I'm feeling cheap (all too often) then it's Jamesons.
Bourbon: When I'm drunk it's the ever popular (far too sweet IMO) Jack Daniels. When I'm not it's Woodford Reserve or Makers Mark. I did once have some 7 crown (Seagrams), which was a nice change.
Right I think I've rambled on for far too long... I shall post more as I remember more. Expect late night updates and increasingly poor spelling :).

Bourbon was the drink of my youth (I was really into Heavy Metal), and JD was king. I can't even smell the stuff these days without feeling sick, but Bullet is quite nice still. Wild Turkey tastes like petrol to me, can't understand how anyone could possibly enjoy it
-
I do tend to drink more whisky than bourbon, I usually only buy bourbon if I've no whisky in. Or after 5-6 pints of Guinness (but those days are far behind me, thankfully).
-
Also should we be worried that we're posting on this (great) thread so early in the morning??
-
When you're sobering up is the best time to discuss alcohol…....gives you perspective
-
I shall remember that excuse ;).
-
I am a big fan of bourbon been trying to track down a bottle of pappy van winkles now for two years. The search continues. My favorite bourbon is Four Roses. When drinking whiskey I like Hibiki.
-
Scotch is another drink I cannot go near, when I was a teenager there was an unfortunate incident with a stolen bottle of blended scotch, a stanley knife, and a science teachers car…...lets just say that things didn't end well for the car, or my appreciation of Scotch
-
Thats exactly why I love a White Russian

OMG, probably the best bottle of booze we’ve ever had in the house, and G has already opened it!

And BK hits Gos Vegas with a small gift…...We’ve had such a lovely day, might as well finish it in style
-
Mme B, could you deal with my shipping tomorrow please? G might be feeling a little "delicate" :-\

I'm just enjoying a very common, and very relaxing, Smirnoff and Coke, before the working week kicks the stuffing out of me again
