@Tago-Mago If you could tell us which bourbons you were considering in your price range,we'd be better able to give our opinions and recommendations. I think the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is a real good solid value at about $50 in the US. I have no idea as to how much that might cost where you are.

@Jett129 wow, at least it’s msrp lol. I’d camp out for Pappy at msrp. I guess allocations are different everywhere. That’s the only reason it’s rare or marked up in different states. It’s been tough the last few year always finding a new go-to bourbon. Seems like everything I like that was once on the shelf everywhere for msrp is getting harder to find. Hey there’s always Bulliet 10 year as a fallback.

@Tago-Mago If you can tell me which bourbons that are available to you fall into that price range I can give you a recommendation. Are their websites where I can see the selection with prices?
-
@Tago-Mago I’m sure the selection and prices are far different there. I’d bet the bigger brands and more common selections would be more available. If it’s bourbon you’re looking for, you can’t go wrong with Bulleit 10 year, Elijah Craig of any kind really, or anything from Wild Turkey. Four Roses and Willet are good, I’ve even had some good Evan Williams if you find a higher end one.

@scooter The McKenna has recently showed up in NJ for $80. Sounds kind of high. What do you think?
Definitely high. I know it varies from state to state. But, I got mine for $52, here, in WI. I can't imagine it would be much higher, in NJ.

@scooter EC toasted is bomb, def worth it.
If the EC toasted ever shows up, I'll definitely give it a go. Problem is, things take forever to drop here, if at all.

@Tago-Mago , I'd say, it's likely Old Forester may be available to you. The 100 proof would be good for mixers, and depending on your taste, the 1910 and 1920 make for good sippers.
Edit: If you happen to be in the mood for a rye, you won't go wrong with their 100 proof rye, either.

Question: Do brits actually drink their beer unchilled? What about other places?
We try to drink it at the temperature that is best for the type of beer we are drinking. Some warm, some cold.... Drinking a lager warm is enough to make you vomit, but drinking a heavily bodied ale, porter, stout etc too cold is pointless (unless all you want to do is get drunk)....

Personally, I do not have the wherewithal to keep beers at multiple temps. So I keep lager in the fridge and most other beers in a cool pantry.

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
@Tago-Mago atm here for €39.95

@Jett129 sorry, I didn’t see your request for availability. I mainly try to buy local because we have a spirits store with a pretty good selection of whisky, gin and rum. I’m pretty sure they carry Bulleit, Woodford, Elijah Craig, Knob Creek, Michter‘s, Willett, Buffalo Trace, 4 Roses. Thanks!
-
@Tago-Mago Those are all good. If you told me to pick just one I’d go for the Michters.
-
@Giles interesting and that totally makes sense. More nuanced that I thought, for sure. I’m partial to darker heavier beers anyway so I might give this a shot. Thanks!
In my youth it was about the buzz only but these days I just enjoy the “art” of the brew or spirit. -
@ARNC michter’s is legit. Haven’t had it in a while but I may pick one up too since you mention it.
-
@WhiskeySandwich thanks for the confirmation - the US*1 bourbon was on offer, so it will be joining a Method and Madness Hickory Wood Finish and a Kyrö Wood Smoke Malt Rye in a few days.
