Filson

Does anyone have experience with Filson briefcases? The website says they use bridal leather, but it was seriously crap. So bad that I returned it. It was a sorry excuse for leather and almost looked like corrected grain. I wanted to love it so badly, but I couldn't get past the shitty quality of the leather.

Man, that's sad. I got their Levi's collab bag, and the leather was the best part. I'm sorry to hear your case wasn't good. You should let them know.
-
Man, I love it. I want to take it everywhere all the time.

I just posted a picture of it in the WAYDT thread. It's perfect for a few days as a weekender or if you're not a giant with three parkas.

Filson just opened a store in London.

Will be checking that out this week.

I'm looking for a new daily carry bag. Thinking of getting a Filson one and am torn between:
Medium Field bag
and the Original briefcase
Does anybody have particular experience with one These? The briefcase is my favorite, I prefer the look and it looks bigger.

I own the small and medium field bags and they are really nice. They do have a long break in time, so they will be stiff for a while. They don't have a lot of organization so stuff does bounce around. It helps if you buy a drop in organizer for small things. I don't own the briefcase but have drooled over many times. Either way you go I think you will be happy with your purchase.

Thanks a lot. I'm leaning towards the briefcase as it could fit my notebook and looks like it keeps the stuff in order, whereas the fieldbags might get chaotic soon. And it looks like the attachment of the briefcase is more comfortable, as the hooks are at the side.

It will probably lie flatter at your side and look cleaner. I will try to get some pics up of my Filson today, depending on work.

There's a Shinola (ick) / Filson store right up the street from work. I haven't gone in yet but it is a beautiful store.

Currently I own original brief case and it fit well with 13" MBP including charger, 10400mAh power bank, fully loaded small pouch with cables, a sunglasses box, couple of 3/4inch thick A4 files in main compartment. An iPad mini & magazine/newspaper in one of outside compartment and keys and some small accessories. It still can fit foldable umbrella can slide in the small compartment which below the strap hook. My bag might b a bit heavy at first ( bag itself is quite heavy already) and OK after used to it. Pls careful when u choose the color, if u wear raw denim mostly and don't wanna get stained the indigo on the bag which is touching with ur leg, don't choose Tan color unless u will hold in ur hands ( not cross body). Overall, I like this filson's original briefcase.
P.S. Break in time is very long. My bag is still stiff after 8 months(almost everyday) use. -
Thanks for your post! In fact, I was thinking of getting Tan because of the possibility of getting indigo stains Black is of course one of my favorite colours and would fit better to all colours, but the tan or olive are more appealing to me.

I've owned the 257 (medium size) briefcase in olive for 14 months now and I love it, and carry it almost daily. It has only recently just started to soften up and show some wear. I find the amount of interior pockets to be perfect for all my small notebooks, pens, earbuds, business cards, knife, multitool, flashlights etc. they are all open on top, no fasteners or zippers, but I don't have problems with things falling out. I also put a strip of thin foam padding on the bottom of the computer slot which makes a huge difference on protecting it from the ground. I shortened my strap a bit so I can wear cross body messenger style, my preferred carry method. My local cobbler trimmed to size and riveted for a few bucks, and now it sits on the small of my back instead of bouncing off my backside. I use it daily as my work briefcase, and have done a few overnight flights with some spare clothes and toiletry kit, it's tight but you can load it up if you need to! I'd say you can't go wrong with the classic line of 22oz rugged twill baggage … the newer stuff I can't really comment on ...
