Red Wing Shoes
-
Speaking of Red Wing repair, I've worn through the lining in the forefoot of my pair of Beckmans. Is there anyone who can fix these, or should I just chuck them?
Pretty sure you're out of luck there. Replacing the liner probably means reconstructing the boot. At that point, your cost is likely to rival a new pair, if you can find someone to do it.
I know a couple of boot makers that will replace a lining, but only on boots they made, and they don't really like doing it.

Can't imagine it looking very good

That's what I'm trying to work out. Suspect you're right, but the extra protection the kiltie gives my Vibergs is golden. The tongue gusset on Red Wings seems to be made of heavier leather so it may not be necessary.

Isn't that redundant?
Or is it Welsh sheep shagger I'm thinking of?

Us Welsh are only tossers when we can't find any sheep. Same with Texans and steers…and the English and their hamsters.
Just like jeans- you gotta get the right fit.
