SExIH07 Jeans (Indigo, Black)

All other things being equal, a lighter weight denim will produce more contrasty fades. But in all honesty, there are so many varaiables that affect the end result.
Haraki never does fade experiments. He designs the denim from the ground up (that includes the selection of the cotton to the weaving and dyeing process), then he lets time take it's course.
He always has an end game in mind - like "I want this to be super slow fade with eventual mega contrast" - and he usually gets it right. But he leaves it up to us to discover what really happens. That's part of the excitement.
Here is another example the black/black selvedge denim he has created for me that we will debut with the BB version of the Beatle Busters is designed to fade to grey with time. But no one has any idea what the end result will look like. Personally I cant wait to find out…G

Wow. Thanks for the responses. This sure is an active forum!
I didn't expect anyone to be that geeky about the differences in the denim to experiment with them; just thought it would be cool. Obviously everyone wears their jeans differently, and even the same person wouldn't produce the same fades on different pairs of jeans.
I suppose that the 19oz denim is fairly similar to the 21oz denim then, and will produce lovely classic IH fades.
BTW, thanks Beatle for doing such a wicked job of photographing your jeans. I hope to wear mine someday as well as you are wearing yours!

just a weird question that i could be completely wrong about, but i'm sure someone will know.
i know that a sanforized jean is essentially just denim that's gone through the shrink to fit process by way of a treatment. if a jean is STF, when the shrinkage is done is the denim technically the same ounce denim?
ie- is the 19oz denim on these jeans still considered 19oz, or does it become heavier(?) like the 634SR?
-
Others will have more info on this since I'm still not totally clear/have forgotten the details, but using your example with the 634SR… the 21/23 oz. designation is pre and post soak. Really heavy denim.
Basically I understand it to be that once the denim shrinks, the denim compresses and more 'fits' into a square yard, which is the standard dimension at which it's weight is taken.

the 19oz denim weighs apprx. 21 after soak.
(stf - shrink to fit - a jeans that is made of raw denim)
the answer i was looking for. thanks beats!

X-post, but just to get them in the rightful place for all to see!

After roughly three months of wear?
-
ok… big question... how do you like the fit Simon? ???
-
Been wearing for about 3 months now, about two thirds of the time. With the heat of this summer being ridiculous, these buggers smelled pretty awful, so I decided a wash was necessary. Pre wash pics.

They are hang drying right now. Dry, post wash pics up in the next few days most likely.
