SOCKS

@Filthy:
sorry just saw this. Go for the non-padded for hot weather use. Lightweight. Been wearing Darn Tough work socks for the past too weeks and they are the most comfortable socks I have ever owned. I love them! Even when it is hot they aren't hotter than cotton and the don't slide down. Best socks I have ever tried. I am inclined to say I like Darn Tough better than Smartwool after field testing them for the past 2 weeks for personal use and at work. The padded ones even make uncomfortable shoes more comfortable.
Thanks for the reply, @Filthy ! I went ahead and purchased a dozen pairs of their lighter variety for the warm months and like them a lot so far.

How tough are Darn Tough socks? The single issue I have with socks is that they invariably develop toe holes. I've had to throw out several pairs as a result and it drives me nuts.
tough. my oldest prs are 8+ years and counting. i wear the light weight mid calf boot type. $20 USD.
I’d recommending getting a pr from REI or Amazon and trying them.
think i'll do that. I usually wear mid calf socks when wearing my boots and during the winter months, sadly every single pair of my Anonymousism socks got the dreaded toe hole. I have two pairs of Beams+ socks that have held up remarkably well, but those fit really tight.

I think these Darn Tough are my most favorite. It's hot but my feet aren't sweaty.

Viberg, Solmates, Darn tough and Thurlo. Plus 2 new pairs of Darn Tough

I have a pair of Darn Tough which are the best socks I have tried so far. I was just wondering how the likes of Chup compare?
I like the designs Chup produce but do they compare in quality and comfort to Darn Tough?
I share this same doubt. Never owned Chups, love Darn Tough but interested in Chup’s cool designs. I believe I read somewhere that Chup were tight to put on/take off.
Also, how does Chup compare with Thunder Love?

I think Chups designs are better than Darn Tough but then again Darn Tough are primarily hiking/outdoor socks.
I like the look of Thunders Love too, the only thing that puts me off is that they are cotton and not wool. Not sure how important that is but I definitely find Merino nice to wear.
I have a pair of Tenderfoot socks which are nice but have shrunk to the point I can barely get them on now.

Gentlemen, no experience with Darn Tough but I own numerous pairs of Chup and two pairs of Thunders Love.
The Thunders Love are cotton heavy in the blend so very soft and comfortable to put on but they stretch a lot and retain moisture. This means they work fine as day socks but I wouldn’t work in them. After one day in hot weather or heavy boots I change them. So I mostly use them in the evening or if I’m going somewhere nice where I have to go without boots/shoes (Norway is like Japan, no shoes indoors).
Chup have a range of blends. With the exception of the wool blends they are tight snd time consuming to put on. This is mostly a function of the heel design which makes for a very well fitted sock when it is on your foot, but a bit of an operation to get it there. The major bonus is that the blends are fantastic when it comes to hitting the sweetspot of warmth/comfort/moisture wicking. There is always enough acrylic or wool that they keep their shape beautifully. The patterns are incredible.
I far prefer Chup as the major drawback is outweighed by the many plusses. That being said, my everyday sock is the IH Engineer/work boot sock. All the initial comfort and ease of use that TL have, all the durability and long term comfort of Chup. Ridiculously hardwearing. Just very boring to look at [emoji1]

Thanks for that.
The fact that Chup are tight to get on could be a problem as i’m UK 11
I agree, that’s the draw with the Chup socks, the patterns are great.
Darn Tough feel great on, wick moisture well and seem to keep the temperature just right but like the Iron Heart socks they just look a bit boring!
Oh well boring but functional might be the way to go.

Smart wool, fitsok, darn tough. I use different weights of merino blend year round

Surprisingly The darn tough I have don’t wick sweat away as well as smartwool or the fitsok. But they are very durable. For the money fitsok really impresses me. Massdrop.com has 3 packs for 19 USD on 3 different styles. But I think smartwool is my favorite.
Do you find all 3 comparable in quality and comfort?
Smartwool are much more readily available in the UK but don’t have the lifetime warranty like darn tough.
They seem decent though

Another mark against Anonymousism, I was putting on my pair this morning and as I was pulling them up over my heel I heard a ripping sound. Now i've got a heel hole in addition to a toe hole. worst brand ever.

Yeah I've noticed that the majority of my Anonymous Ism have holes in them. They have certain style that are more durable but compared to Chup, they are definitely inferior.
