VAT for US buyers?

My apologies if this is not the right section for my question, I wasn't sure exactly where to go.

I was thinking of ordering some IH stuff from DC4 that is out of stock elsewhere; however, I noticed that they still charge the VAT to US buyers. Is this usual? I've emailed them hoping to find out if I can be exempt. I recognize that the prices seem to be the same as at SE or here but as far as I understand the law, US buyers should not be subject to the VAT in this instance.

Does anyone from the US have experience with this and DC4? Many thanks!

There is no law.  It is a decision that each retailer can make.  We do not refund VAT, nor does DC4.  You pays your money you take your choice.  If we refunded VAT, our prices would have to increase for everyone…..
