Viberg

Brett wants to make Viberg boots MORE expensive ???
-
Yikes. Better get them while they're cheap. Nope, that's the wrong word; um, get them while they're not outrageous?
Seems a risky idea to go higher end and more niche. They built the company on selling solid workboots. I'd like to think there's still a viable market for them to continue doing the same, as well as expanding into more "fashion" offerings.

Sounds like he wants to move his market away from competing with Whites, Wesco and similar lower priced brands (Wolverine, Red Wing etc..), and start going after Visvim. Especially when you consider the sneaker collaboration, and branching into clothing, sounds very much like he wants Viberg to become a Canadian Visvim.

Canadian Visvim.
Hahahahahahaahhaahahhahaha
EDIT: Sorry that just sounded funny when I read it.

It did to me too

It did to me too
I just can't wait to see the prices of all the collabs when/ if the price increase happens. Also, can someone tell him to do more of the style favored in JP? I feel like I need to grow a mustache, vest, and wear some spectacles before putting most of them on. Here comes the hate…

No hate from me L, I agree.
I wish I could love Viberg I really do, and I do love the look and quality of their boots, I just cannot justify them in comparison to Whites. The quality and materials are separated by a hair width, and that hair width isn't worth several hundred dollars to me.

When asked about the future of Viberg, Brett replied: "If it was just me, which it isn’t – I would continue to upgrade the quality and make Viberg into a higher luxury brand. I would make the shoes more expensive and add bags and clothing to create a very high end collection."
this sounds to me a lot like Brett wants to continue building boots (and other stuff!) just cuz he wants to make more and more money, not cuz he just love doing what he's doing and why he became famous in some way…
and I'm totally with mega on this one...not cuz I'm still living a students life but more like this sounds to me that he's going to lose a lot of customers with this shitty idea...he rather should stick to the things that people can associate with the name and the brand behind everything instead of using the name to jump on some other shit!...just my 2cents though!
*finn leaves the www and gets back to drinking Belgian beer all day long!

i always thought viberg was a legit true blood bootmaker that only did it because they love making boots… but seems like i was wrong.
-
Right spoken Rafa!;)
…but his shoes are awesome!...and i ve seen some of the NC-Collabos and was able to touch them!
...top notch!!!
Maybe it's because he want's to hype their own new clothing collection?
...who knows? IMO he should try the balancing act between the fashion thing and this what they are famous for! Maybe with 2 different lines: one fashionable and one solid!
But that's just my opinion guys!!!;)

After re reading this I thought I should highlight the first sentence. Now re read it yourself and see if you still have the same opinion. Looks like nothing is going to change. Thank god for his partners.

Bret is not [quintessential] Viberg, he's 2nd generation__ he's standing on the shoulders of the OG bootmakers before him who established the brand rep with their blood, sweat & tears.
his business model goes against the more conservative & traditional Viberg. through the years, the brand had a comparably small, but loyal niche__ blue collar. he might drive them away. if Bret has grand ambition, IMO, he should create a new label apart from Viberg for his other shizzle. in case his high-end global ambition does not pan out in the long run, he won't be dragging the brand__ w/c took decades to build. down with him
to give credit where credit is due, he did infuse "new life" to their more traditional line. he face-lifted the Viberg image. the style of the new products are more updated, aesthetically [better] appealing, & provides fabulous options/upgrades.

I'm with Lando on the little excerpt. My first thought when I read it was that he wanted to change it, but it wasn't actually going to happen.

I agree with that also, and that's a good thing for Vibergs customers. I think a lot of it is probably Brett's personal vision, as he kind of intimated anyway.
I just could never imagine a press release from Whites about their collaboration on the next Air Jordan's, or a Nike X Whites Dunk. Again though, that's probably because Whites are made by middle aged men with beards, rather than Brett Viberg, it's upto the customer to decide if that's a good thing or not.
