Here's this announcement on Styleforum. End of an era…
"Hey everyone,
I wanted to let you all know directly that we will no longer be taking orders for single pair custom make ups. We hinted a while back that MTO might be coming to an end and we've officially hit the point where we can no longer offer it. This is happening for a couple of reasons, but essentially it boils down to inefficiency. The custom orders take up far too many man hours and consistently slow down the workflow in the factory. We will continue to expand our wholesale network in 2014 as well as our offerings on Viberg.com, so hopefully the end result is that it's easier to get your hands on a pair of our boots.
We plan to offer MTO events in various locations in the future which will give people a limited opportunity to build something special. We're also happy to work directly with you on a custom pair if you can somehow make it to the factory in Victoria where we can go over materials and fit in person. Forum members also have a tremendous opportunity with what Fok is doing on the Marketplace.
Anyone who is currently in the midst of an MTO boot will continue corresponding with Morgan, but the mto@viberg.com email address will be terminated in a few days. If anyone has any further questions about this or anything else, please contact us anytime at info@viberg.com. I know this might be disappointing news for some customers, but i can assure you it's a big and necessary step in the right direction for us as a company.
Thanks,
Guy" -
Right. That's exactly what will happen.
Excellent point, tigerpac…

^ so the custom orders through you are also dead G.?
…and btw. I also like those white paint boots! the back ones are even nicer imo...
My impression is that customer single pair made to order boots are dead, but Giles/Iron Heart collaborations, as well as collaborations with other retailers, will continue. Giles has always said he needs at least 4 orders to get Viberg to do a custom build; Guy's post seems to imply that Viberg needs to make multiple pairs of a configuration to compensate for the effort of shutting down the line, recalibrating their machines, switching out materials, resetting tolerances, etc. A minimum order for a retailer should still be worthwhile. I wouldn't be surprised if the minimum order goes up to something like 10 pairs instead of 4, though.
But that's just my guess…
