Thanks everybody

I blew the button off my Beatle Busters. (Giles was right! I shouldn't have sized down!) So I made a sew-on button out an old copper penny, and affixed it with some Kevlar. It turned out really great. I made the holes in the penny using a center punch, and hammered out the penny making it concave using a ball-pin hammer as a die and a 9 pound hammer. It took 2 blows over a piece of soft pine to make the right shape. I might like this better than the regular button. -

I have a cute little penny with a starfish on it from Barbados I was gonna use. But it was too small and thin, I thought.

Very nice, Mike. The button looks great. I glued a quarter to the button on a pair of gap pants when the front of the flimsy donut got bent. It worked pretty well for a while, but eventually came off. Yours should last forever with the Kevlar!

I first purchased this Kevlar to reinforce the bar tack on that pair I sent you. I have to use diagonal cutters to cut it. My scissors aren't sharp enough. Thanks.
I was shocked to see that this got shared on Facebook. It definitely made my day.
I was looking in the button box for a decent button, after talking to Giles about replacing the button, and there was a penny in there. Thus, the idea sprang forth.
