Wallets, Chains, and Reins

@pjroo33 thanks, it’s a great design. I bet it’s stubborn cuz it’s pretty tight grained and impregnated with whatever they treated it with. Not really oily.

I have been searching for my perfect shell cordovan wallet and recently had this wallet made by an amazing Japanese artisan I found on Instagram. They go by the name Robusta, absolutely beautiful work!
This specific one is made from Leder Ogawa aniline dyed shell with a natural Leder Ogawa oil shell. The main cash slot also shows the Leder Ogawa stamp. I can't wait to see how this one will age!

I’ve been looking to replace my card wallet that I lost while in Vietnam this past winter, and this beautiful leather creation arrived in the mail today. Very impressed with Benjamin Bott’s work and this suits my needs perfectly. The middle “receipt” slot is very expandable if needed, while keeping a fairly slim profile when not. It leather smells gorgeous and feels good in the hand. Looking forward to breaking it in and seeing how the patina develops over time.
Edit: The colour in the pictures is more yellow than in real life. It has more of a pinkish flesh tone to it than is captured in the photos.

Mr. Lentz added brass to my beloved biker wallet so I had to upgrade.

@WhiskeySandwich damn! Was that braided chain in a natural finish when new?
-
@Mizmazzle nah, it has darkened a ton in the past year though. I made that from a light/medium brown leather. I've been on the hunt for some new leather to make another but it's surprisingly difficult to find the exact stuff I'm looking for.

Has anyone checked out Nordic EDC? Wondering about this one….

I like how thin it is for a trucker/ biker/ mid size wallet.

@Denman-John Great wallet! I have a wallet made by Benjamin Bott that I’ve carried for years and it’s held up great. I got my brother one because he liked mine so much.
His is veg tan while mine is the darker British tan.
Found the brand new pics!

I think I finally got it. I like how this tether turned out.

@WhiskeySandwich nice dude!! that looks sweet!! I dig you made the lanyard yourself...inspiring me to perhaps give it a go. I've been curious about getting into some leatherwork. Looks fun.
-
@Mizmazzle thanks duder! I've found some suppliers that make for some quality stuff too, and it ends up being pretty cheap in the end. So it's cheaper, fun, and you get the feelgoods of having a one-off piece you made yourself!
I honestly hate how natural leather looks when it's new like this, but it produces the absolute best looks down the road imo. I can't wait for this sucker to get greasy and dark. My last wallet got so dark it was nearly black on the back. seems like 75% of the patina happens in the first few months, so i'm hoping the leather i got for the tether ages similarly. you may be able to tell in the pics the wallet has had about a week headstart.
-
@WhiskeySandwich did you follow a pattern for the leash or just use good ol self taught ingenuity?
-
@Mizmazzle i just youtubed "four strand braid" and eyeballed some other existing products on the market. My passion for perfection (OCD) made the knots difficult though, the part that wraps around the circle brass rings was hard to get done in an reasonably clean manner. I took way too long on it, doing it and undoing it until it was what I consider acceptable. But you find your methods along the way.
-
@WhiskeySandwich cool dude!! I may DM ya here soon and pick your brain some. Looking at a new wallet and making the tether sounds fun.
-
@Mizmazzle I'd be glad to dive into it man! hit me up anytime
-
@WhiskeySandwich thanks broski!!
