White's Boots
-
Right, so all this talk of Whites has backed me into a corner and forced me to sell my SD's via eBay, as I require funds to buy a new pair of Whites or Viberg (undecided, by probably Whites). I haven't listed them on the forum, as I know the resole job with the Lug sole was not popular here, although the workmanship was good quality, also they are not what you would call cheap as I need the money.
If anyone on the forum is interested in them, I would obviously offer a reduced rate for members.

fwiw, Im a 10 in Whites SD last, and I was sized into a size 10 Oxfords by Bakers as well. I have not received the oxfords yet, but I did have multiple conversations with them. If any of you guys are in doubt, ask Bakers! Dont listen to us mooks, each of our fittings could be different.

I once worn a size 8.5d red wing 9111s, and I want my oxfords to be nice and snug..
well, Bakers told me that if they are too small they can have White's re-last them up a half size no problem…

Finally coming close to a decision:
Alternative a: Semi dress in brown horse hide, cap toe, vibram 700, double midsole, natural edges, curved heel, standard heel height, single celastic sole.. etc.
Alternative b: 6" bounty hunter last smoke jumpers in brown smooth, cap toe, vibram 700, double midsole, natural edges, curved heel, standard heel height, single (or no?) celastic sole.
Give me 4-5 more days and I'll order

Both sound good, but were it my money, it would be alternative A.

imo, if you're really dead set on double mid-soles, Bounty Hunter would be more apropos
btw, just to make clear: Bounty Hunter is on the SD last & they're only called Smoke Jumpers if they're on Vibram Lug 100 soles.

if you get the second option, be prepared for a pair of boots that weighs about 4 pounds each. (ok, slight exaggeration, but they will be pushing at least 3 pounds)

Hmm, how much does the SD weigh then? I did not think that it would be a huge difference?

I just think that a single mid-sole looks too "thin" in the midsection just in front of the heel. Not sure if you understand what I mean?

I have 8' bounty hunters with a composite sole, single midsole, and each boot weights about 2.5 pounds on my cheap scale. Once they are on, its all good, but putting them on first thing in the morning is kind of a drag to be honest, as I am the most laziest in the mornings and want to just wear slippers all day.
I would think that a double midslole and a full sole (not composite) would add close to a pound of weight, and depending on the leather and lining….it adds up.
-
My SD's weigh 2.6 pounds each, and shockingly my oxfords weight 2.4 pounds each. I have absolutely no idea why? I assumed they would be much lighter ???
-
One of our scales is messed up Mega, because if your oxfords are 2.4 pounds and my 8" bounties are 2.5 pounds…I must have misrepresented the actual weight. They are a bit heavy nevertheless. I didnt expect the oxfords to be so heavy to be honest. Oh well, I gets mine in a few weeks hopefully.

I'm taking them to re-weigh at work tomorrow (we have really good scales), as I think something is rotten in Denmark. Got the feeling that it might be my ability to use scales

Just ordered these from Graham Fowler in NYC for $260. They were 50% off

thats a great price. Whites shits on Wolverine 1000, and for close to $100 less, thats a steal
