White's Boots
-
Thanks Megatron, I was very pleased with the rebuild. It was like having a new pair of boots built for only $200. I believe I'll go with a lower profile sole on my next pair though. These are a little chunky.

Not the email you want to get 9 weeks in:
"It was damaged during making it and they had to re-make one shoe. I will check the status and get back with you"

I like the combination a lot! Someone should try a ripple sole on one of those eventually

Same as Viberg in my opinion, Whites fit is BIG.
What sort of Whites are you looking for man?
-
yo ucan get the heel lowered by 1/4 of an inch by Whites. Probably more at a local cobbler. FWIW, my heel is lowered and I plan on getting a normal height put on when it comes time for a resole
-
Yeh, I'm no fan of the lowered heel either. Also, Whites feel very different on your feet to Vibergs, if you have a high instep you will probably find Whites more comfortable in my opinion.
-
I own low and high heeled White's and a low-heeled semi-dress in particular and must say I like the looks and how it wears very much, even though it is not as "classic"-White's.
Some different heel heights, depending on sole configuration in some of my others:
-
has anyone got the added height ones? i'm a pretty short asian guy and i need shoes that give me that extra height to look normal.. not sure if white's with added height will look too … weird
-
its only going to give you 1/4" in additional height. Plus, I think it would look kinda platform-ish on a street boot. I say stick to the traditional heel height, its hard to go wrong there.
-
same build up as my 4 year old jumpers
I think your boots below are the reason I got into this whole White's madness with a total of eight pairs so far (sold a few, bought some others, am pretty stable at the moment).
is that a complement? or something else? hahha i wanna se eyour collection!

alright Mega, I need to pick your brain one more time. How heavy are these compared to your SD's? Compared to the SD's ( yours are single leather sole, right?) , how flexible is the sole, if you were to grab it by the toe and flex it? The only reason I ask this, is because I have a 2021 sole on a pair of Redwings and its rather stiff, and Im not sure why…Do you get any heel slippage? Thanks man, Im right on the edge of an order of red dog roughouts......
You bastards are going to get me in trouble with all this talk.
As a wise man once said, less lip, more flicks.
-
They are probably just over half as heavy as my SD's (I had a thick Vibram sole added to my SD's), the Oxfords are a little more flexible, and forgiving than the SD's, and yes I get a bit of heel slippage, but that is because I screwed my sizing up. These shoes definitely fit on the large side, I am a true UK 10, my SD's are a US 9.5 and fit perfectly, my Oxfords are a US 10.5 (the size I should be), and they are around half a size too big, but nothing that greatly bothers me.
-
so if you ordered them the same exact size as your SD's, you think it would be the money fit?
-
Yup, I think I should have matched. I read someone else say that the oxfords fitted smaller than the SD's, and I followed their advice. I have since learned that this person does not own the oxfords, or the SD's …..so was perhaps not best qualified to comment.

all right fuck it, Im about to get a pair of red dog rough outs. Thanks for your help Mega.
-
No worries SG, let's take a look at those bad boys when they arrive

Does anyone that got a pair of horsehide SD from bakershoe like to share some pics, opinions on the leather etc…? Thanks.
