@Geo:
They look really nice Riff
Was eyeing up similar to these http://www.kafka.co.uk/item/Thorogood1892_6inchmoctoe_0_384_11170_0.html
Never been a fan of RW (yep - I know that's gonna upset a few) so like you very nicely describe, these might a good alternative . . . the only gripe for me is the ever-present Vibram Christie . . . which hasn't convinced me of it's worth
i totally understand not being a fan of redwings. i like the vibram personally because when i was doing alot of carpentry work the sole was a lifesaver. i would crouch alot and the stiffness of the sole took the pressure off my arches. They definitely last a while too.
-
all good then - the christie sole irks me because I thought they wore out too quickly, i have other vibram soles that haven't worn so quickly
imo i think too many boot manufacturers have been speccing the sole on looks rather than performance . . . i recently noticed Viberg trumpeting oil resistant soles on walking boots!?
but that's what's so good about this forum - I get good info from all you guys
-
weird! i always thought the christie soles lasted a good while for me. it definitely seems weird to put them on a walking boot though.
i too love how much info there is on this forum. its been very helpful.

You got them made to order? Where did you get that done? I might be interested in picking up a pair if I can have some control over the specs. Especially following your positive initial review.
-
i should specify, i ordered them from a boot retailer who advertised having them in black. i couldnt find them through thorogood's website. When i ordered them they actually had my pair made at thorogood and sent to me. i didnt have anything to do with the specs of the boots. so thats what i meant by made to order. it wasn't like ordering a pair of White's Boots.

thats where i got them.
-
one thing i'm disliking about these….the tongue is cheap. its not the same heavy leather the rest of the boot is made from. other than that i'm very happy with these.
-
yeah thats what it feels like. i guess it doesnt really matter that much.
-
i'm not complaining for $140 haha. they will certainly get the job done.
-
i went tts. i'm a 9 in the alden indy, 9 in rw iron ranger, i got a 9 in this boot.
-
sizing down half on iron rangers makes sense because i put an insole in them and they still fit.
-
nice. hope you dig em!

@riffblaster:
I would recommend these to anyone. Wish i hadnt missed out on the limited horsehide boots they made for Epaulet last year.

Nice pickup riffblaster! There is also the 685…
-

i found out about them too late and they ran out of my size. oh well, i'm happy with my black pair.
