Any closer to deciding what to do with this? I agree with what most are saying about a work shirt, but a single-yoke short sleeve western would be pretty nice too..
And I have to do something with this. 6.5oz left hand twill selvedge denim (that will fade)…
Work or western? Work or western?
I'm still hoping for a work shirt from this fabric.

I love Westerns but think the red works best as a work shirt. Red western flannels on the other hand are great

My vote would be a double yoke western. I love solid color shirts (I guess this kind of solid) of this material that aren't indigo.
IH has done this in the past (88, penguinos, 56 - although this was not a denim/chambray, 66, 16) and they all were brilliant.
I think the 6.5 weight would make a great lighter weight shirt for warmer months, although quilted lined and pockets could result in a cooler months piece.
Excited to see what comes out of this.
Quick side note, the Khaki IHSH 16 is one of the best looking shirts (IMHO) I have found on the forum and is love to see this make a return some day.

Quick write up of the new 21oz black denim:
It's bloody great.
Longer write up: This denim is basically the IH flagship 21oz, but black and beige instead of indigo and white. So all the characteristics of the 21oz are there, soft but heavy, drapes beautifully, big fat 'combs forming already. The hand is even and regular but because of the thickness of the warp there's a beautiful texture to it. That being said it feels a bit crunchier than the regular 21oz, maybe because they were raw and soaked? It's cool either way.
The best thing about this denim is the colour though. Imho, regular black denim with white weft means there is a lot of contrast in the material and it often comes off as a dull, cold dark grey. Wear it with white and it's all a bit monochromatic. The brown weft in these gives the denim a much warmer look and feel. It means that it pairs really well with brown leather, indigo, and yes white. I suspect it'll be great with earth colours as well. I'm looking forward to wearing it with my olive 163 and some brown duck at some point. I'll try and post some decent pairings over the next few days and I'll have these with me to Kanreki, in case anyone wants a look then.
iPhone snap of the cut offs, that shows the beige weft:
