Ask Giles Anything
-
…hey Giles! Is the orange bag for something specific or just a friendly little gift?
-
I believe it says gift on the tag, and I will use it as a tote…..
-
When you guys make a new denim. Do you pre distress it. So you can see how it will fade?

A shopping bag….
-
No.
I try and wear it, but that only usually gives me 6 months of wear before we release it.
That is why, when people ask how a new denim will fade, the answer is often "tell you in a few months"
So do dyeing methods give you a slight idea?

for those of us who work in an office that has "casual Friday", or now with the pandemic "casual everyday", a nice pair of jeans kept clean is much easier than wearing the same ones we were at the ranch with or in the yard with.
This is why I’m such a big proponent of the Superblack non-fade denim. Especially the 9666Z’s which have a black patch and black W. I can get away with wearing them at work.

I was watching a product review by James Dant and he referred to the iconic red stitching as an “E”. I’ve always thought of it as a rotated “W” has homage to Triple Works. What’s the history and meaning of this logo?

It’s a W that stands for Works Inc, the iron heart parent company. Or it can be an M for Motorcycle if you like..
Both make sense. Thanks for clarifying.

…Sir Giles, is it safe to say that IHUK online would be the most likely place to find XXXXL in shirts/jackets etc and that retailers around the world generally don't ask for or want XXXXL's?
...and/or that very few XXXXL's are even produced?
...'Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought him back' I P Thanks!
-
Yes, IHUK is the most likely place to find XXXXL. IH Japan never stocks them, for some unknown reason and very few western retailers take XXXXL.
And yes, we make very few. Oour buying from Japan is based on a bell curve related to previous demand for products of the same type.
That said, the shape of our bell curves is skewed by the limitations of what we historically stocked. So for instance, if we only stocked 4 x XXXXL of a product, then the most we could sell was only 4, even if we could have sold 20. We realized this about a year ago with the super popular sizes, so we have been steepening the bell curve and are ordering a LOT more L's and XL's (in the case shirts and jackets), we very recently realized that we needed to order more XXXXL's, so we will start doing so from now.
Unfortunately, FW21 orders went in before we realized.

I'm just so thankful Iron Heart offers the 4XL because no other Japanese brand makes shirts or jackets that fit me and the overall vibe of IH just feels right.
-
When I first started working with Haraki, the largest size he made in tops was XL….I've been pushing the sizing boundaries ever since
And for that I owe you a debt of gratitude.
-
…I'm with @Palmer! Feel very fortunate that I'm right at the cusp on this sizing subject!
…and with that being said @Palmer is my direct competition now on who gets to the limited items being offered! Like a damn game show, who clicks the 'BUY' button first! :o
…all good and it makes it kind of fun and interesting. Psychologically speaking when there's just 'one' sitting there available it does a real number on me!
...thanks Giles!

And part of the reason I glommed onto IH. Other brands' size XL were M to my mind.
And the unsinged, uncalendered, unsized, unanything was interesting. Little did I know…
