I've been wanting to nab a pair of these for a minute. All my 777's measure 36 in the waist. I'm wondering if a size 35 with the measure 34.4 waist would work and stretch enough for me. I have a thin midsection and given the rise on the 888's I'm thinking they will. Hoping for a second opinion to convince me.

I tried these on at Self Edge SF, figuring I might be 33 or 34 based on the measurements. The 33 could button but was pretty tight and not super pleasant, while the 34 was pretty comfortable right then and there. I'm inclined to go with the 34 but I've heard that this fabric has a ton of stretch–-will they necessarily stretch out a ton? Do I absolutely need to go with the smaller waist and suffer for a while to avoid them becoming so stretched that they don't stay up without a belt?

Go for 33. I wish I had.

@schraiber The waist will stretch out approximately one inch with wear…

So you went for the comfortable size and it stretched out enough that it wouldn't stay up or at least didn't feel good?

Yes I know. I'm asking for people's subjective experience: did they regret going with a size that was comfortable to start?

Yes. Literally with a 33/34 situation as well.
I don’t have a lot of experience with ih so take my advice with a grain of salt. But I am a non belt wearer like you. I assume Jett wears belts.
I think thighs are the most important thing to size for.
If your thighs are ok in 33 I’d go with them. Waist stretches up to 2 inches if you need it to. That’s what I’ve heard said by many people.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

+1 for the larger and more comfortable size

I think everything has been said and that it’s probably a matter of personal preference.
I personally went for tight waist over comfortable start and did not regret that decision for a second.
The waist did stretch out fairly quickly. You can accelerate that process by doing a handful of squats.Going tight allows the top block to really conform to your body (which it will, the 21OZ has a lot of give).
I can see why people go comfortable though. If you’re wearing a belt and don’t care too much about the waist stretching out a bit, go for it. Just don’t make the mistake of assuming „the fit will stay like this“. I’ve wasted a few pairs on that assumption when I first got into Raw.

Jepp… comfort is highly subjective, and the sweet spot in the comfort/fit ratio differs. I’ve had more more pairs I’ve needed to flip because I didn’t account for stretch and they endes up top big, than the other way. Given your description of body shape etc, I would go w33. A few days discomfort and years of a satisfactory fit is better than a few days comfort and an unsatisfactory fit, long term.
