Ship John

@GraemeE From my experience with their hats, this makes sense to me too. I wear one of their woodland Camo hats and it fits great. I noticed that the widows peak area of all SJ hats is a bit tall. Even on the waxed hat, it’s just the waxed hat collapses unlike the foam.
I have a duck mesh trucker with foam that sits high on my head and has not relaxed, but I get used the feel of it after wearing it for a little. I think they look great, even with a bit of height in the crown. Also that Pharrell reference was spot on
-
@Mizmazzle I left the brim out of the hot water
-
I asked Mike in a Ship John Live on Instagram about the sturdiness of the brim post soak. He said he soaked the brim of the test hat and that it “feels the same as the brand new one”.
But I know hats with cardboard brims could get ruined by soaking them. I did not ask what the brims are made out of.
-
@Danimal506 Good info! I agree...I've ruined hats before by getting the brim too wet. I'll probably play it safe and keep that dry.
-
I think the move toward the super high crown on trucker hats in the 70s/early 80s (which SJ models their hats after) was a function of wanting more space for printed advertising.
If I'm not mistaken @popvulture works in advertising so technically we can blame his people
-
@Mizmazzle funny you would say that because I'm considering canabalizing one of the straps and brass mechanisms off an ebbets hat I rarely wear
-
@GraemeE blame away! I dislike the field of villainous charlatans more than most, haha
-
Also that origin story for trucker hats is true afaik
-
Since we’re (sort of) on the topic of the origin of the SJ hat profile/fit. I just saw this on their instagram
-
I love the fits of the Ship John caps. They fit my big noggin.
Anyone going to try and get the new Langlitz Wills? I think the preorder is dropping today.

Received the sashiko hat yesterday. Looked awesome until I tried to wear it. Did a soak, then let it air dry... still feel kind of ridiculous with the height. Attempting another soak today followed by a round in the dryer.... will report back if that helped or I ruined the hat.

The hat looks awesome, but I agree the height is ridiculous looking on me. My son just busts out laughing when i put it on. I'll be selling or returning.

@bluemantra You have the Shashiko cap?
