All Things Mac/ Apple

I got the iPhone 4S last week, finally upgrading my very tired 3G. It's cool, but beware if you're restoring from the 3G backup - it monkeys around with Facetime in a really annoying way and loses the App icon.
No work laptop for me, I can remote desktop into work on my home machine and I have a standard desktop PC there. Now I need another excuse for the Macbook Air…

About to start the Walter Isaacson Book…

I'm thinking of maybe getting a 4S soon. I was one of the nerds who lined up and got the first iPhone the day it came out but since then went another direction. I love my HTC Thunderbolt on Verizon but the lack of global capability makes no sense for me, and the loaner program is a drag. Doug/Gimpkid I see you both used the element vapor cases - any issues with getting car connecting kits or other cables in there? I know that it doesn't work with most docks but I guess a dock extender should deal with that. They do look like very cool cases…

Only problem I've had was getting my Square credit card reader plugged in, which goes in the headphone jack. It was really only a problem because the reader hit case before the jack went all the way in.
You shouldn't have any problems with normal "free" cables as the vapor case has a wide cut out on the bottom (and an okay one for headphones).
As far as anything that it would "dock" directly into, I doubt it would work.

I just finished it. Great read and got me inspired to get more involved with the design aspects of my projects.

RDPing from an Air while sitting on the coach is a dream… (Microsoft makes a remote desktop client for mac).

I can't get the eBay web page to scroll down using my Mac, but I can with my work PC, all other websites appear to be ok, any ideas?

My lot use Firepass - I downloaded the software onto the iMac (running Snow Leopard) as instructed, but when I log onto the main site it doesn't recognise that the software has been installed. I think I can get it to work, I just have to ask IT to tell me what to do. It was just easier today to log on via the PC, but if I'm on the move I'll want to use my Macbook, not the Dell XPS.

thanks gimpkid

Does anyone have a suggestion for a decent iphone cover/case? And while on the topic one for an ipad as well?
My 3gs is destroyed with the only protection is an ih sticker
Going to treat my 4s a little better so was looking for a case. Leaning toward the Corter one atm.
As for ipad, I have no clues so all input appreciated!

I'm currently using the Dodo case for my iPad one, although I wouldn't recommend it as build quality isn't what it should be. I'm going to try Portenzo or Pad and Quill next. I like the Moleskine look though, and it's not for everyone.

I`m using this OGL (ObbiGood Label) leather case for my iPhone 4…
here`s the link to a similar one:
http://www.obbigoodlabel.com/store/all-others/ogl-ac-veg-tan-sundown-iphone-case/the best thing is, if you want something totally different you always can pm one of the craftsmen and they will work something out for you (even for an ipad)…

The Twelve South Book Book stuff is really nice, and well made. I'm not sure about a phone case that you need to unzip to use the device though. I like the iPad version though.

Do I need an iPad 2?
I have an iPhone 4 and a macbook pro..
I've been lusting after one, but am having trouble justifying the purchase…..
No. Just wait it out. I have a iPhone 4G and a Macbook and am not going to pick one up anytime soon. Love a laptop!!!
-
El, when you HAVE justified it, please tell me how you did it, I'm in the same boat….....
My wife didn't like the idea, so I went and bought one for myself (WiFi version) - I had to loan it to the wife and she made me promise to her that I would get her a 3G version before she would let go of mine…

Do it! You'll find you don't even need to take your Macbook Air on shorter trips, unless you have complex spreadsheet needs or other major software needs that aren't catered for. Also, it's excellent for general surfing, reading and watching video on public transport.
Call it an important business investment in new media, counter culture technological cross platform, SEO marketing and technological futurism. Or, think of the possibilities for watching telly and surfing the web while on the loo.
