Fast Food - A "Guilty" Pleasure….

I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again. In n Out Burger is the finest in American cuisine, for a very reasonable price too. Some may disagree, but to save you the bother you are wrong.

impossible for a place lacking bacon on the menu to claim such a distinction

In n Out is thoroughly mediocre on the burger front and the fries are downright gross. They have a Steve Jobs-like reality distortion field for some reason. They don't even make my top 10 of burger chains. In Dallas this week I opted for lowly Whataburger over them (fries there are only marginally better, a double bacon cheeseburger way better).
There are so many better chains and so many better local options (such as the burger pictured below from a local Greek run burger place here in Denver) in almost every town here.
My top five chains of the moment for burgers are:
Freddy's
I forget the rest. I wonder when Freddy's opens?

I saw your post before regarding Freddy's. There's one in Lakeville and now you've got me wanting to check them out

Like I'm going to take an Englishman's opinion on food seriously. Though I will commend you on finding a way to make their fries edible…
Even in LA, I can think of two chains that are better- Fatburger and Umami Burger.
In n Out is the Supreme of burger chains- not intrinsically bad, but a reputation based on hype and emotion.

I know they're super hyped, but I really do love the Parlour burger–had that one? It's in the north loop, a great butter burger. Also in MN I know jucy Lucy gets a ton of hype, but I actually enjoy the plain ole cheeseburger at Matt's bar too, perhaps because I don't have to wait as long to eat it without blistering my esophagus with molten cheese. You live in one of the great burger regions IMO.
Back to Freddy's, they smash the burgers before the tallow liquefies which gives them this irresistible flaky lacy crust around the edges. The double cheeseburger with grilled onions haunts my dreams. The fry sauce makes the mediocre fries palatable but they now have very solid cheese curds, almost State Fair quality IMO. Fry sauce is also good on the burgers, but the default toppings of dill sandwich pickles and mustard are perfect.
Another strong suit is their custard. I'm especially fond of the chocolate brownie concrete.
Umami is great, though I "get" that it is another kind of burger game (fancy schmancy). I really want to try Fattburger. @gaseousclay:

Sadly, I haven't tried Parlour. It's hard these days to take my son out with me to new restaurants. He pretty much only wants to eat at McDonald's (because of the happy meals) and Ikea. The last time I went to a proper burger joint was well before my son was born, and that was at the Red Cow https://redcowmn.com/. Their burgers are decent and they have a location in Edina that's close to where I live. Their bison burgers are delicious.

Yes I have heard good things abouy them but never had the chance to try, and I love bison. Parlour is just a double griddled and lightly mashed butter burger with white American cheese and house pickles on a potato bun. It's just so perfectly seasoned that it is hard to beat. Comes out with chilled old school ketchup and mustard squirters. Their fries are fantastic. I used to split an order of them and each would get their own Burgers.
You live in a great region, Edina and surrounding area is great in many respects beyond food. I was on 394 and 100 in St Louis Park, so that wasn't far.

Yeh, you’re all wrong …..and Unami Burger is fucking disgusting.

I actually live between Uptown and SW Minneapolis just a couple of blocks off of Lyndale, so close to the Edina border. I'm about 10-15 minutes from the Red Cow in Edina. I'm not particularly fond of living close to Uptown. Not only is it hipsterville but these days Minneapolis has become so congested to the point that I now want to live further out of the city. But yes, lots of good restaurants here in the city.

I don’t understand how people shit on in-n-out. I’ve had it several times and it’s fucking Delicous. If you don’t
Like it that’s one thing but to say it isn’t good is horse shit. 5 guys, Whataburger… what have you, are all
Delicous. If any of you are ever in NYC you should go to the “Corner Bistro” for burgers. It might be the only thing on the menu there. It’s all I’ve ever gotten.
@Megatron1505 well done.

You're entitled to your foolish opinion. That doesn't change the fact that In n Out is overrated. I'd rather go to, let's see, right off the top of my head- Cookout, Shake Shack, Whataburger, Freddy's, Culver's, hell, even White Castle.
The only solution is for you to come back to America, so that we can go on a cross country burger binge and argue the relative merits of each place in person.

@Matty123 Can't believe you mentioned The Corner Bistro. When Twin and his brother came to NYC for a recent visit,I told them we had to go to this place called The Corner Bistro for the Bistro Burger. They loved it. For years in the seventies that was my hangout bar. Next time you come to NYC,we're going.

@Chris , after the last couple of weeks my risk of a stroke is about 95%…...i’d better leave it a couple of weeks.
-
and over here, i can only dream of the day i get to try in n out….

Freddy's is good but they reallllllllly need to do something about those damn fries! French fries should not be that thin people!
