IHM-27-OLV - Sateen M-65 Field Jacket - Olive

With the right layering underneath, this jacket is fine for a UK winter, barring the coldest temperatures. I wear mine with a merino wool jumper or a flannel and t-shirt and have no problems. The stand-up collar helps retain heat too.

@jothishan:
Guys, so what is the conclusion! Is this Jacket suitable for western winter? With the IHSH- Wabash shirt underneath, can one withstand the cold temperatures between 1 and 5 °C? I know this is a subjective question, but just thought someone who already owns this would be able to share their experience!
I'd definitely say no, not suitable for winter wear. It's a heavy jacket, don't get me wrong, but at the end of the day it's just cotton. I'm not sure about the sizing on this version, as I own the very first iteration, but the armpit area is pretty snug and it's not too comfortable to layer anything crazy underneath.
It's a fantastic piece though, and living in Sweden I wear it from April throughout November and it has served me well for a number of years

Thanks for the replies! I have a fair idea of what to expect with this jacket, but it is too tempting! I might get this one for Spring and Fall and look elsewhere Winter!
Another question, how does this fade over time? Say after several washes? I'm sure it would look immaculately broken in and look even better than new. Can anyone that owns this throw your comments?

Couldn't resist! Copped it!

Congratulations! I’m a little jealous [emoji1]
Just like me when I see your snaps wearing IH gear! Some of the best fits I have even seen!

I’m considering getting one of these in olive. I’m curious to see how they age. A quick glance didn’t seem to give any progression photos. What does it look like after two or three years of wear and say 15-20 washes? I’ve got a couple of vintage authentic military issue M65 jackets off ebay and really love how they have aged and would hope these age well.
-
Exactly what I wanted to see before I pull the trigger, but since this is IH stuff, you are guaranteed that this is going to age much much better than anything else comparatively.

Just curious on sizing. My chest measurement is normally 49 across. I’m curious if anyone else in this range has got the jacket and if they went for the XXL. The XL seems like it would be too tight if I layered.

I'm in a dilemma guys, I have a similar jacket from Old Navy, which is also a military style jacket, Its a Large that measures 24.5 pit to pit which fits me fine. a little lose but with layering it will fit better, the XL for this jacket is the same measurement but I notice the sleeves would be too long. Even the Large has a pretty long sleeve. What should I do? lol. I could go with the Large I guess but i could probably only wear it with a light henley underneath, nothing too thick. Id love to be able to get the large, I have lost 40 pounds over quarantine and plan to lose another 18 pounds by end of the year, What would you guys suggest? The Large measures 47.4 if the measurements are correct and the XL is 49. about 1.5 inch difference. I think the sleeves on that XL will be too long for me as i'm not very tall I'm only 5'9

Mine is arriving today! Eagerly looking forward to receiving them!
I went with the shirt size. I'm S on the IH shirts and went with the same for the jacket! Hope it fits and has enough room to layer something underneath!

Daft question. How long are your arms?
Im only 5’9” and the sleeves on my version of this (model from two years ago I think) are fine.
I take the sage IH advice and measure the arms of an existing garment that you own/like and take that into consideration.
On the basis that you are going to use this as a winter garment, I would probably go with the XL if intending to layer. I have sized down on m65s before but have always found myself going for the larger ones I own due to extra room for movement/ability to later. Also, you will need to take the lining into consideration re the P2P measurements.
Also, if you are based in the UK you could always possibly go to Gosport and try on.
On a side note, IH version is the best iteration of the M65 I have owned/handled and imo better than Buzz/RMc/all the Maharishi ones I have owned.

As I'm typing this, I'm wearing this! What a beauty this jacket is! A few things that stand out for me:
1. Impeccable quality, really well made!
2. The side pockets are more than perfect. Thank goodness the pockets are on the side and inclined!Things that might have been better:
1. An inner removable liner like the Rothco M65 would have meant for me that I would only need this one-and-only jacket for all seasons
2. The engage and dis-engage the zipper is something that I should get used to but not a deal breaker per seThe sleeve length is for now perfect (remember I have monkey arms), but if it shrinks after several washes I don't know how to deal with it. I hope it does not!
Overall, I like this one and this is my first ever quality jacket that I have ever purchased!
Any by the way, the Olive goes perfect with my every day carry, the Filson 257 in Otter Green!

Does this jacket take a liner?
Nope.
H once told me he was going to offer an optional liner. I said, 'and what the fuck are you going to to do with all the liners that no one decided they wanted, but we have made, at the end of the season?'
He gave me a sage look and said "no optional liners"…...
