Random questions to which you seek an answer

Thanks guys. Just emailed zip as he's close to me.
Another random question….. To those of you that are moderately active on this forum but not on others like sufu et al: why not?
This is home
Honestly I don't have time or interest, though I occasionally will lurk on reddit. Not really rawdenim though…

SuFu (well, Superdenim at least) is the greatest historical source of information an expertise on the denim scene anywhere on the internet (caveat - that is written in English). You will find more knowledge there than anywhere else.
As a trade off you will also find some appalling attitudes, lots of frustrating newbs talking about their kickstarter denim brands all using Cone Mills denim, and all manner of niche and clique incestuous behaviour. A couple of years ago Superdenim was truly great, but many of the old guard no longer use it frequently enough due to their own lives moving on, and the horrible software "upgrade" about a year ago which caused SuFu to be the single most unresponsive, slow website on the entire internet. This has lead to the quality of the daily input being diminished.
There are still plenty of good guys posting there, and if you don't stray outside of Superdenim (into the cursed Earth of frat boy humour that is found elsewhere on SuFu) then you will find using Superdenim a really positive experience. You just can't be too sensitive, and read before you post.
I have been lurking on DenimBros for a while now, and will sign up shortly. Their forum seems to be more mature, and their interests more diverse than other places I have checked out.

^^nothing more to add. Well, maybe that those who find Sufu (superdenim only) offending, either haven't logged in for two years or are overly sensitive. You get all the good parts regarding knowldege and diversity of brands together for the price of many noobs asking the same questions over and over again and people being honest about bad fits (not a bad thing, IMO).
Denimbro - I tried it, but back then it was the same three guys posing as miners in supspenders and cinchback jeans. Not really open to the style that gets love here, so I figure many of the IHF guys would not feel at home.

ok ok ok…
i'm not a guy that does watch that much TV that a super badass TV would be needed for the new flat...
now my question:
should i still get a super badass TV (badass alone will do as well) or should i put my money into sth. like an iMac or whatever...that's handy enough for when i decide that it's time to watch some TV?actually a TV is "needed"...even if it's just for the guests et all! :-\

I got rid of my TV four years ago - never missed it a second. If you get a big Computer Screen, you will be fine. (Though I don't watch TV online neither, so I can't speak for the quality of the TV signal.)

Re denimbro you are speaking about Mike Harris one of the legends in denim hunting together with his friends. In fact they are exploring mines and stuff. Thanx to guys like him lots of info is still around from a heritage point of view. Worth to check out for anybody interested.

No, that's my screen. Big enough for watching DVD, great for looking a photographs and dirt cheap compared to a TV.

I don't get this feckin hate thing. There is no denim brand that I hate, there are some I don't like, some I would not be seen dead in, but none that I hate. There is room for loads of different brands, and some are loved by some and some loved by others. Hating stuff is petty, childish, tribal and immature.

I know about Mike Harris. I read a lot about Vintage clothes and the history of denim. Still, not my style

All good

I think the thing one has to remind one's self regularly is that denim is fashion weather we like it or not. It's fickle and it changes constantly. We tire of things as they go out of fashion and we crave things as they come into fashion. One can be as nerdy as one likes about denim history or denim weave or denim companies, although important, this is mere pedantry. Be part of the society that you live in and reflect that by being in a constant state of development and expansion. Like working with the weather as it changes through the seasons rather than stubbornly fighting against it. Or something.

Agreed Giles. Life is too short for petty, senseless grudges. Hatred should be reserved for things that deserve it, like Belgians

I'm not sure it is hate when it comes to Iron Heart. I can see that if vintage or repro is your thing then quite possibly Iron Heart would not be, I also think that it's a reflection of Iron Hearts success, and a perception of saturation in the denim scene of people wearing and showing love for Iron Heart.
For anyone familiar with the street wear scene there were always similar cliques against Bathing Ape and Supreme. As soon as something is perceived as being popular it will inevitably attract detractors.
On the denim scene in general, I like to be educated daily, whether that is about a brand, a material, a designer, a manufacturer, a retailer or just some opinion that I had not even considered. That is what keeps me interested and makes me want to just keep on learning more. I can say with all honesty that 50% of what I was "sure" I knew 12 months ago was complete bullshit. Open mind is key.

I'll give you an example.
One of my retailers was thinking of stocking Naked & Famous.
He contacted me and asked me my opinion and whether I would mind. My response was that whilst I would not wear them myself, the brand serves a useful purpose and (imo) helps bring consumers into the premium denim scene.
One of his other suppliers threatened to pull their product from the store if Naked and Famous was stocked. Now that is silly, spiteful and way too far up their own arse…..
