My SD's are set up very similiar,  I went with the block heel and the half comp and I did the black horween excel.  I did not do the toe cap, but I like it!! maybe on the next pair.  Seeing your pair all broke in makes me more anxious for my pair to come in.  I think I am almost 4 weeks in on my order.

Holla, I almost bought a pair of SD's in Red Dog a few weeks ago but they were too small, on sale too. Really love the red dog color in any of their boots.

I think so, it is called a false tongue.

It is also called a Kiltie and is removable.  If you use build a boot, I think you can spec having one or not…

Sometime this year, I'm going to buildaboot a black, captoed semi dress. Still undecided on black chromexcel vs. black water buffalo though .. thoughts?

Go with the chromexel.  I've never been very impressed with water buffalo.  It's thin and easily scratched and scarred.  The chromexel probably doesn't polish up as nicely, so if you want the boots for dressier occasions, it might be a better choice, but for just knocking around in everyday wear, I'd pass.
