White's Boots

told people again and again chromexcel is crap pls listen to me
So do you mean CRAP, or crap relatively? Given that most people are not stomping out forest fires with their boots is there really an issue here?
Please can you clarify your above pics/description? What is the bad thing? How old are these boots and what type of wear pattern/frequency have they had?
Thanks

Maybe its my crappy monitor but I would swear they look almost the same lowky. Maybe the lighting or one is brushed :-\ oh and demoito interesting take on the leathers I will remeber that when making my purchases.

cxl leather i smooth to start with so they tend to age earlier and make your boots die earlier. and fuck look at what happend to the top part of the engineer boots thats only my shin( skin) whos doing that and it ripped some of the leather off.
both are same age both same use. so you decide

so far I am diggin the CXL it has a nice semi satin sheen to it….... I will not have to even break these in they were comfy as soon as I put them on. Might be a little long, but nothing a thin insole can not fix or a thicker sock.
Hectic I do not have anything in the dress black to compare. If I was out stompin shit and kicking ass I would probably get something a little more beastly and I would get a 8 or 10 inch, but for the purpose of this shoe I think the CXL will be good to go for cruisin around the office. time will tell...

Type of leather is a matter of personal taste in my opinion, CXL evolves quicker than dress or oiled leathers, but looks equally as nice. Just think of it like fast(er) fade denim
Also, unless you're very rich, or an actual woodland fire fighter/ logger, I don't see why you should be looking for the toughest work leather. We buy $450 - $800 boots so we can wear them with our expensive, well made jeans and shirts and jackets. It's more about the craft, the look, and the feel rather than whether we can dig a ditch and cut down a tree in them surely? And craft, look, and feel are very much matters of taste, opinion and subjective reasoning….i.e we're all different.
Having said all that, I do kinda like the fact that if the urge took me to dig a ditch, or cut down a tree, that my gear would be upto the job. I like to see the Rick Owens/ Dior/ Hedi Slimane wearing loons do that !!!!!

My SD's are tomorrow being shipped to James Taylor and Sons of London, to have a second leather midsole, and a Vibram composition half sole fitted. The cost is a bit harsh (£120 with return shipping), but they're the only cobbler to respond with a confident "yes we can do that attitiude". The response from other cobblers has been kind of "we'll have a go at it if you want"…...not inspiring. I'll post pics upon their return, which should be 2 weeks(ish).
