The Real McCoys

that's a real nice peacoat.
in terms of size do you think its worth sizing up?
i'm a 38 in a blazer but i find with some japanese brands i need to go for large rather than a medium.
this is certainly true of buzz rickson sweats.
i've just ordered a real mccoy hoody in red but i'm deeply craving the pea coat and can only track it down in a 40.
should i take the plunge?
all advice gratefully received.
if the measurements are fine…go for it!
-
Given that you will be wearing winter layers under the peacoat, a little extra space would surely be fine. Strange time of year to be buying one though, unless you are living in New Zealand or something…
-
That's true…
Hassinator you will probably be fine but as others have said it will depend on the measurements. For what it's worth, I wear Small in (almost) all IH westerns/workshirts, which would probably equate to a 36 in the Real McCoys peacoat, but I took it in 38 as it fit much better sizing up a little. Good luck and hope it works out, it is a truly amazing piece.

thanks for the advice guys.
i got four of the real mccoy t-shirts from superdenim for the summer at 38" and they all came up too tight.
i've sent them back for a credit note to cash in against a pea coat when the winter range drops - i'm always planning ahead.
the t-shirts where very well made but perhaps too heavy for summer if you perspire a lot.
i go through white t-shirts like a warm knife through butter so i'm going to focus on mccoy sweats in the future.
btw superdenim also advised sizing up so i'm going for the 40" and will report back when i get it.

i got the new season chambray shirt and am very happy.
it comes with a tag on front - not sure they did this before? - which i have removed.
i'm usually a 15 1/2" in a shirt so sized up to 16" as there is a degree of shrinkage and got it right this time.
the fabric is sublime. its hard to conceive of it being of a higher quality and its probably my best purchase yet from these guys.
my brother-in-law is dj-ing in tokyo hopefully picking me up the new season cpo shirt - is it true the sleeves are lined?
the rickson version in 38" was too tight for me - i'm a UK 38" regular in off the peg blazers etc.
have asked him to size up and look out for a nice plain navy sweat shirt in large.
will report back when he hopefully delivers next week.

i'm going to be in LA from the 19th of august does anyone know if real/joe mccoy is carried by any stores there?
-
work took over my life in LA so got no shopping done at all
i hear you on blue green it looks an amazing store.
how gorgeous are the horse hide flight jackets lined in red silk?
still they seem to come up very small with the 44" jacket only having a 16" collar
for nearly $2500 price tag that's a long distance high cost fit gamble.
-
so i'm trying to make an order from vintage paradise in japan through rakuten.
does anyone have any experience of this?
prices are MUCH better than through UK outlets but i'm guessing import duty and shipping will soon rack up.
all information gratefully received - i live in london by the way.

I ordered my Buco J-100 repro through Vintage Paradise. They were generally very helpful and usually responded to my emails within 24-48 hours. I'm not sure if it helps you make a decision, but I wouldn't hesitate in using them again.
i ordered the 906 jeans from them and they have indeed been really helpful.
also ordered the buzz rickson navy hook jacket from take off.
will report back when i get them as it will be interesting what tax and import duty add to the cost.
mccoy and rickson are so expensive in the UK.

Honestly its like comparing apples to oranges
The IH loopwheel fabric has a realy smooth and uniform feel and its pretty thick . My favourite thing about the IH hoody is the brushed back , realy makes it super warm
The McCoy's loopwheel fabric is soo soft but has this slightly rough texture that i love , the McCoys sizing works better for me and i love the front pockets , the talon zipper is a nice toutch too -

meanwhile my first order from japan isn't going well.
i have had some 906 real mccoy jeans on order but they've emailed me today to say they've sent the wrong ones.
annoying as i'm wondering how i sidestep import duty and VAT on something i didn't order?
it was from vintage paradise who have been very courteous through the whole process.
still it maybe makes it clearer why its easier to order from the UK and pay a premium.
-
thinking of using the money i'd earmarked for the jeans as a down payment on a - ahem - joe mccoy down vest.
i really like the brown deerskin model has anyone tried these before?
-
I should add that the Real McCoys release both spring/summer weight and fall/winter weight hoodies, that grey is a spring weight from the looks of it, I have the green one myself …
Hassinator, that deerskin vest has become an obsession to me (I have a preference for the black though), but I cannot find any reliable info on sizing ...
