Heavyweight Denim Championships 2013-2015 - Official Thread

I gave the jeans their first wash a few weeks ago. They're not Sanforized, so I was keen to get all the shrinkage out now, rather than finding out that they'll be two inches two short once we're further into the competition.
The jeans filled up most of the washing machine.
And afterwards I had to take the mandatory indigo stained hand shot.
Lastly, some early evo on the ankles. Unfortunately I don't fall into the Licorice Noose category…

Don't be too sore about it Graeme. Faster wear isn't really worth a crappy job!

Are they rope dyed or hank dyed? -
To introduce myself:
I am interested in denim and vintage clothing, which I also collect. In Germany are only very limited options cause denim was established in europe only in the 50s.
I have deliberately chosen this model although i know that it will not fade with the same strong (high) contrast as a dark blue one. The reason why i ve chosen these is that this jeans shows the highest standards in denim manufacturing.
An interesting feature of this model is that the warp thread (2.5 mm) (weft 3 mm) was dipped by hand about 20 times in one skein, which creates consciously a slightly irregular color structure.
The jeans were bought in Berlin at DC4 japanese denim store.
I was wearing them while soaking (March 18, 2013) and dipped them dry to get a large number of foldings (combs) from the beginning.
So far I had worn them about 50 days. -
nice fit!
Are they rope dyed or hank dyed?He is not often in this forum but i try to answer for him. It is this denim:
http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/2nd/item/sj-s5000ai24oz/
He bought it from DC4. I guess it isn't rope dyed although i couldn't find out how it's done technicaly. All I find is this:
"Dyeing: A dyeing method of 職人技 repeating that I let the original goods dyed deep blue can touch an increase, air when you soak gyve (you lend) which bundled up a thread in an indigo dye vat and attach a natural indigo plant to a thread and oxidize 20 several times. THE GYVE IRREGULARITY (IRREGULARITY OF THE OXIDATION) CHARACTERIZING THE GYVE DYEING IS A FLAVOUR PECULIAR TO INDIGO DYEING NOT TO BE POSSIBLE TO INDIGO DENIM BY THE ROPE DYEING.
*The dyeing irregularity, please enjoy the taste as personality of natural goods dyed deep blue."But you should know it better!;)

yeah, I "should"
Usually AI denim is hank dyed but sometimes you will find rope dyed ones, which will fade like other rope dyed denim. My question was more in that direction: for a denim fading contest, why you would take a hank dyed denim. it wouldn't be my choice -
But it looks different than your 24 oz denim right?
