IHM-02 - Ventile Lined Sateen Cotton M65 Field Jacket
-
Finn, it's coming back, right? So no worries, brother.
I'll give yet another glowing endorsement for this beauty. I can't imagine I will ever find a better M65. Every detail is top notch; and, as mentioned, it's incredibly windproof and warm considering that it's not especially bulky. This is my go-to jacket from fall through spring on all but the coldest of nights in Southern California. Don't think twice, buy the re-run. You'll be so happy you did.

Hello! New user here.
I just ordered the very last black in medium. I did some sloppy measurements on an old (european line) Carhartt jacket, but I'm still not a 100% sure. I'm quite short with a fairly "athletic" build, 173 cm and 70-75 kg. Medium should be the correct size, right? For japanese brands (WTAPS and NBHD) i usually size up to a Large, but I'm a medium in most european and american brands.
Also, does anyone know why the Ventile is only used for the lining? I'm assuming for aesthetic reasons, but it would make more sense to use it as outer fabric, as the waterproofness of Ventile (or any similar cotton fabric) depends on it actually getting wet. A Ventile lining would really be doing the opposite, as heavy perspiration will make the fibers swell and make the jacket less breathable.
Also, is this actual trademarked Ventile or just a densely woven Ventile/ETA proof type cotton fabric?

^good choice man, this is my favourite jacket. im slightly taller and slimmer than you and the size small fits me well, which is my normal "western size" - so you should be fine. the "ventile" is, to my knowledge, not the actual trademarked ventile.
this jacket is very windproof but, quite frankly, sucks for rain. it gets very wet unless its a slight drizzle. especially if youre biking.
i fucking love it though!

M should be good
I am 1,83m and I wear the L! -
Ordered Otter Wax some minutes ago, gonna apply it asap Did anyone wax the M65?
-
I'm not sure how well it will take, as the outer is a satin blend.
-
Will test it on a not so visible area before use!

I know Davito waxed and baked his duck but dunno about this fabric?? Maybe ask Davito.
-
I'd just Scotch-gard it…

Perfectly valid point Seancono!!

Same here…don't ruin it. I waxed my G-1000 Fjäll Räven pants with their own wax - worked fine, but the fabric is a lot different.

OK people. H and I had a lost in translation moment. The outer of this jacket is "sateen":
Sateen is a fabric made using a satin weave structure but made with cotton yarns instead of silk.
The sheen and softer feel of sateen is produced through the satin weave structure. Warp yarns are floated over weft yarns, for example four over and one under. (In a weft-faced satin or sateen, the weft yarns are floated over the warp yarns.) Standard plain weaves use a one-over, one-under structure. The long floats produce a smooth surface to the touch. Also they don't scatter light which increases shine. -
Added some Otter Wax on the inside:
Looks and feels great, lets wait some days until the wax dried in the sateen.
And yes, it´s a great, great jacket, don´t know if I apply it to the rest of the jacket. Maybe not, we´ll see.
