Hello all. I just joined this forum but I read this entire thread while trying to decide on my White's semi dress boots. I finally ordered them and they arrived yesterday. Since I didn't see any pics with my particular makeup, I figured I'd post some pictures up in case others want a reference. These were ordered directly from White's. I was afraid the standard height heels would make the heel feel too high but combined with the sole option, the heels feel like regular boot heels.

Hi everybody, Im new to White's boots and all the differences between leathers, lasts, midsoles, outsoles, etc. So, I've read over the whites thread here, at superfuture, and at styleforum, so I could try to gather as much info as possible without asking all the same questions that have been asked a thousand times already.
Ive got a build almost finalized for a durable, work worthy, yet good looking 8" bounty hunter. my question is:
^^^^ Ive always thought this was what brown dress leather looked like; essentially black but lightening with use.
^^^^^^yet Achee posted this pic of his new pair of brown dress SD's and they seem a far cry from the brown dress that ive seen in every other picture.Does brown dress vary by that much? am I mistaken that these are both brown dress?
thanks in advance, you guys have supplied a great deal of knowledge and pictures to people like me wanting a custom pair of White's, but not knowing where to even begin.

Ah ok. in Achee's post he had called it brown dress, so I was quite confused.
for my custom BH im going with brown dress for the toe and heel, Ive been trying to find any good pictures of a pair of white's in black bison, because ive been thinking of having that on the shaft of the boot. i thought about doing the shaft in brown bison, but i think having brown bison and brown dress together like that might not look too great.
any opinions on my build or pictures of black bison?

Depends on your requirements, bison is a nice looking leather but if you want a genuine hard wearing boot which will outlive you don't stray from dress leather. Nothing beats it for durability in my opinion.

My boots are brown dress leather, not CXL. I think the matte finish in the pics may be because of the crappy fluorescent lighting at my office. They are a bit more shiny then in the pic (although not as shiny as the comparison pic). The leather looks like it will buff up shinier over time and with use.
